Congratulations to your son! And I wish I had that view on my drive to town, not enough to move to Alaska though.
30° here this morning, started a fire with black birch. I've been burning soft maple so long, I had a shock when the stovetop temp got to 700°, with the draft half open. I have to remember how to burn good wood.
When winter comes along one of these days, and it's bound to happen sooner or later, you'll remember how to burn the good stuff. There is a bunch of Black birch in the woods out back, but it's not on my land. I'd love to get some. A friend of mine was ice fishing yesterday in Alton, still 10" of ice there.
20 in 77 out. Coals still burning down but I have some beech ready to go. The January thaw melted most of the snow but it won’t be for long by the looks of the forecast. More active pattern this week and next weekend looks like a big storm. Pretty sharp cutoff to this last one. In northern Maine Presque Isle got 2” of sleet while 13 miles north in Caribou they got 13” of snow. I’m sure they’re dragging trails again. They can have it.
10f here this morning. Rope Congrats to the hockey tourney! Must have felt like you were driving into the tropics with temps only in the -teens!
29* OAT this morning 70* in the house, burning more of the small stuff Elm, Ash, Cherry and because it was going to be colder I put some bigger splits of Beech.
It's been a damp 23* here all day, at least the driveway froze back up from the weekends close to 60* and a bunch of rain. It's been hard to not to just switch back to the "shoulder season" (mini splits) heat source.
We’re up to -29* last night was -49* last I saw it. Looks like we are trending upward towards -16* high over the next few days before it falls backwards again, to the mid -30’s. Just making ice sickles and daylight, up to 5:31 of light.
-24c/-11f right now with strong gusty winds out of the north making the house creak. Weve had lots of shoveling and cold temperatures lately. I dont mind the cold but the windchill can get a bit much. The wood stove has been busy doing its thing. Im sitting in the rec room in shorts just waiting for my coals to burn down a bit more before my overnight load of larch.
32 last night...trying to dwindle my chunky bins down so I can move them to another area on my property. That is a mix of red oak, maple, ash and black locust.
