35 and 81 and we dodged a bullet so far. It was so warm yesterday and it held on better than expecting they’re saying so the icing issues aren’t as bad as expected so far. We still have several hours until it’s done but the bulk of it is past and came down as rain. Not many power outages thankfully. It’s a bit warm in here so no reload until mid day at least. Northern Maine is getting a foot or more of snow in places with ice in Bangor and Downeast where there are some outages. Good news is it’s moving quickly.
OAT is 11 with an IAT of 68. Fire soonish, after I finish the first . The main course will be Beech, with a possible side of Nat. gas (not me, the furnace) later. We ended up with about 3" of the white stuff so far. A bit anticlimactic. Does anyone remember the story of Henny Penny (AKA Chicken Little)? Yeah, that.
20 outside. Beech in the Wood Gun. Our Ice Storm was not one so far! A very small amount of ice on trees, but not even enough to make them droopy yet. What a relief! Hopefully it stays that way. They are still calling for icing this morning. Let’s hope we continue to be lucky. So glad so far!
Overall, as usual the forecasters were predicting gloom and doom but although it was bad, it was nothing like predicted. Fortunately we also missed out on the high winds that were forecast. Everything is white. Ice covered with snow, but not very deep at all. 20 this morning. Some minor flooding reported.
Woke to a balmy 62* OAT with rain. This is what I loaded the OWB with yesterday afternoon Elm, Ash, Cherry, Poplar. Inside temp. 72*. This is way to warm for January.
Sounds like most folks got lucky and made out ok. We had high winds and lots or rain last night, woke me up at 1 sounded like it was going to beat in the windows. Some limbs and trash down, old punky tree across neighbors driveway....potential for a few good ones down in the woods. Still quite warm out there, high of 70 today...we're gonna end up paying for this.....
The temps here ended up dropping down to -8f. Made for a brisk walk and freezing facial hair this morning!
62 last I looked last nite 25 now We get wind all the time here but last nite was the worst I’ve experience in many years Didn’t lose power. Boiler was out this morning Shoveled ash and lit a small load of mish mosh sawmill waste and some canola Girl Scout juice to get her up to temp faster. Will load her for the night in a few hours
Came in from roof raking just now. 14 OAT and 72 IAT. Beech in the stove. A whole 3" snowpocalypse. I'll do a bit of shoveling later.
Dropped to 33* overnight when the front came through... We got the wailing winds about midnight and heard an explosion outside, but couldn't see anything. We had a late night last night so we slept in late. I got up and checked the stove. It was out but still a little warm. It has been making a funny tinking noise that last couple days so I wanted to let it cool down and check it over... one of the secondary tubes was bent pretty bad and the one end popped out of it's socket when I touched it. I pulled it out and of course the back side was split wide open. It was bent to about 30*. I found one of the least damaged old tubes and put a hose clamp around it where the crack was in it and put that one back in and fired up the stove. Limping through till I get a new tube ordered to put in. We try to be careful when loading the stove but it is easy to get over zelous and hit a tube. They bend pretty easy when they are glowing red... Then took a walk to see what the "explosion" was last night. Huge Ash tree down across the driveway right behind the woodshed where we couldn't see it from in the house. I'm getting changed now to go out and CSS that bad boy... Sorry, no pix, my phone is broke and getting a replacement Monday.
It’s -44* and all is well, birch has been keeping the frost at bay. House is toasty warm, wind is to start after midnight and have windchills past -65*. Think me and the kids will do some snow showing tomorrow after we load the rack inside. Just getting back from a tournament my oldest 12U they took 2nd in the tournament.
30* out 70* in this morning. Loaded up with elm and a piece or two of ash. These mild temps have changed what I thought I would be burning right now. I have started pulling off of the 'spring shoulder season side' of my pile. I might be burning apple and oak in March
