I guess you used the Cross P/C. afleetcommand thinks the Cross had a bore alignment issue and put too much stress on the crank bearing. He was getting significant differences from the base to the squish band on all four quadrants.

I checked mine side to side and they were close. You can't really check front to rear because the piston will rock. I'm hoping the case is okay, the align bore could be off.

He measured with the cylinder off, using the depth gage on the calipers.

That is a pretty crude way of checking it. I checked mine that way, it is off .003" side to side and dead on front to rear.

What you need is to put it on a lathe and check the base with a dial indicator.

    What does yours indicate?

I might check my Hyway/Farmer Tech, by indicating the base flat and check the cylinder walls with an indicator in the chuck of my mill. I don't have stock on hand to turn a mandrel for the lathe.

Both the 660 and the 362??? Are still in the box unopened. Terrible of me I know but between me and the kids if it’s not under double lock and sealed parts tend to get lost! Plan all along was for this to be a winter saw project for me and my oldest (almost 10) to teach him about small engines. I unexpectedly purchased a project truck (2005 dodge Cummins) needing injector and transmission work that has taken a lot of my time.

I think bullit is the only one to have a breakdown...at least here i have read about. But any members with dual membership at OPE there was a cylinder up for grabs...a new in plastic farmertec one.

So it took awhile Jun 2017 until now but I had a snow day yesterday and built the 660 and 361, followed 94BULLITT videos (don’t waste time watching them all before the build, open your box, start the video and pause as needed). I’ve got 5 hours building in and expect another 1-2 hours to get them finished. I built the 660 and my 11 year old son built most of the 361.

We put a divider up on the coffee table to keep the parts separate, I had him find parts, look for screws, fitting parts together and running screws down. As I explained what each part was and how they work.

This was my first time doing anything to a chainsaw more than pulling a muffler. You can do it IF you have YouTube, Phillips and common screwdrivers, needle nose pliers, T-27 screw driver (get a T-handle one and a regular one) a light hammer, basic metric 3/8 drive set and 4-8 hours (a deep well socket set around 1” diameter helps with fitting the case together). A drill or impact helps speed things up and avoid hand cramps.

I’ll post a reply once I finish them in a few weeks.

94BULLITT did you ever repair your 660 after the bottom went out?

He did. He has several you tube videos he posted one as recent as this last week I believe where he was running it. He explained what he had done to it and which parts when he rebuilt it.
