Trying to fall asleep at night, I think of all things firewood and trees, lol. I guess that is proof of addiction. Pretty wild, isn't it. Or, nah...! I have cut this one dead standing red oak down on my woodlot a thousand times. Any day, I'm likely to really go do it!

After i had Midwinter out at the quarry a few weeks later i had a dream that i showed up at the quarry and her along with WeldrDave and some other members were filling a tractor trailer with all the wood. Now that i think about it, it was more like a nightmare.

Instead of counting sheep jumping a fence, I've tried counting splits as I stack (I find stacking boring) to fall asleep.

As I come across this post I am on hour 15 of a double shift, and yawning....now my jaw hurts as I yawn for the 100th time....Yes I do think about firewood alot when trying to fall asleep. Think about the sweet splits that red oak makes. I also dream about sweet scores, firewood and other dreamy adventures....

I’ve found at times when I’m falling asleep, if I’ve spent a good deal of time that day doing something repetitive, that my mind is still deeply focused on that task. I’ll snap out of that falling asleep phase briefly and realize it before falling right back into it. Used to happen all the time when I worked at a butcher shop during high school and college. I’d still be cutting meat as I was falling asleep. Happens occasionally nowadays if I spend an entire day splitting. It’s like my mind is still splitting even though my body is comfortable and ready for sleep. Not sure how else to explain it.

That would happen to me during blueberry picking season, I'd be picking dream berries all night.

I will say this, before I joined the FHC and got on the 3 year plan (4 yrs. now) In Feb. I would toss and turn thinking I had to get at it for the next winter, kinda like the birds knowing when when to migrate. But now having money (wood) in the bank. I sleep well. Thanks FHC.

Back in years past when I had "found" a good scrounge site, I would grab as much as I could and make plans to head out at first light the next day to continue the hoard.

Many trips back and forth to the truck stepping over what seemed like more and more "how did I miss that piece"! When I laid down for sleep, yeah, that's all I saw was the ground covered wood!

BTW, I got enough firewood out of that one site for the entire winter not only for me but also for my Mom! Two years worth of "free" heat is a good deal! Just under two weeks time.

There were a lot of firewood chunks seen once I closed my eyes at night!
