Not really that cold, but it is Ash wood. My tree, fell onto neighbors property. Started at it today cutting the top with a rebuilt saw, MS280. The rest will need something more substantial. But the 280 was fine up to 12” or so.
Thats a big one. Whats the DBH? When did Stihl do away with that model? I had an old 028 which i loved. Nice work btw!
Probably 30”, now at knee high. I think That saw lived on the market around 2 or 3 years most. It’s pretty scarce but shares a lot of parts with the 260 and 270. It is a PIA to work on if you had to fix one. It is a cool looking saw.
It looks like the snow melted quite a bit during the day. What a great tree to fall so close to home, to give all your saws something big to cut!
Was able to get back out this morning. Took the 562XS so I’d have something fast and pretty easy to handle. Cut the smaller stuff to stove length. Since most of it was off the ground I had a chance block it and then cut to log length. Headed back out after lunch and changing out a toilet seat. 394XP. Good idea Midwinter ! Finished cutting logs to stove length then noodled until the saw ran out of fuel. Some Ash I find down isn’t worth the effort. It’s mottled and punky. I was afraid that would be the case with this one. It’s in really good shape.
Got 90% up to the house before the thawing field started to show some signs mudding up so I quit. Surprised me to be just short of a cord and a half brought back so far.
dontcha love it when the tree is off the ground and you can buck away! Nice day today. I was in short sleeves for a bit! Hard to believe its January 11! Nice wood and work BTW! EDIT: missed several of the follow up posts!
