Does anyone have any advice or certain areas I should look at? I’m looking for about 25-60 acres of wooded land. I’m ok with secluded areas or sparsely populated areas. What are the major drawbacks of the area? I’ve lived in Minnesota my whole life and I can certainly say our winters are a huge negative. Any information is greatly appreciated.

My Brother-in-law moved out of that he!! hole, New Jersey 3 years ago and went to Apex N.C.. He loves it. His property tax went from 12,000 to 2,300 a year. He hasn't looked back once.

Wytheville, VA in the Blue ridge mountains is nice. Very scenic. County has about 25K+ people. 45 minutes to big towns, 30 minutes from NC or WV, 70 minutes from Tennessee.
Taxes under $1K in town. 5-6 hours from Atlantic.
Plenty of acreage plots in the surrounding countryside.

This area has wide variations in weather, topology, population, and so forth. If you can share a bit more in what you are wanting. There are mountains, piedmont, coastal plains, and seaside in Virginia and North Carolina; something for everyone. However; and I have to be careful to not violate the ToS, I would avoid moving to Virginia at this time until things change politically; we can discuss this in PM if you wish.

Nothing wrong with the politics in southwestern VA. At least where I live.
To boot, many towns in this area have declared themselves 2nd Amendment Sanctuaries, which is pursuant to the red color of our American blood. So if you’re a hunter or just want to secure your domain SammyWhammy, this is a great area to look at.

Doesn't matter where you live or what you declare, Richmond rules. Which reminds me, I need to get over to Richmond to see some statues before they disappear; I am sure that is one of the laws they are working to change.
I suggest going further south below the Virginia line to NC for now.

Of all things we have been looking to relocate and NC, SC, or the SE. Totally bananas but we're keeping our options open and the weather looks much nicer as well as our housing dollars can go a lot further. I'll be watching this thread, but like you mentioned acreage, we do not need that amount but we are not used to houses crammed next to eachother which is now happening here. It's all to be seen... I've never even been out there. I heard the humidity is high and have scary thoughts about the extra cleaning it requires.

South of SW VA and east of us too in central and “South side” the humidity is ridiculous. Not too bad here.

This past summer here did seem to have a lot of days with high humidity. One nice thing here is that weather is pretty nice most of the time; winters are mild with only a few snow storms that brings things to a halt and those are short lived. It depends on one's lifestyle such as dining out, theatres, etc. as those are limited in my area.

That is correct, which is why I said I would give the OP more information in PM where I assume I am allowed to tell someone about an area's politics. Eric VW stated more in his post than I did. If I am moving to an area, I need all information than just we have pretty country.

It is understood that this site is a politics free zone. Why did the subject come up in first place? There is no reason to even bring it up in the open forum. The OP did not ask for an opinion on politics! There are plenty of other places on the internet for political discussion. If you feel the need to discuss please take it elsewhere.

There's always the U.P. with it's mild winters. :smoke:

Just keep in mind that there are certain qualifications to permitting someone to live here full time.

We've (true yoopers) have tightened up on just who we let in!

As long as it doesn't turn into political discussions, I feel that there's nothing wrong with explaining what a state or particular area is politically. It's really no different than explaining taxes, different laws, etc (which are all political topics anyway)
