That is also what I have. The only way that I'm aware of is to send it to your email then you have it on the computer and you know how to do it from there.
it started its life as a splitter mounted behind a 4 point of a tractor. I adapted it to mount to a skid loader. but still had to lift the rounds above the I-beam to split it. then one day cut it apart and made it a 2 way push wedge on it. that was ok. but it was slow. with a lot of re-splitting on the same piece. I usually buy logs from tree services, so I don't get much small stuff. so I made it into an 8 way with a push block. the key was to stagger the wedges so it splits in half, cracks apart then splits thru the next wedge and so on. works good on most stuff. crotches tend to make a lot of kindling, especially hickory crotches. here is a couple more pics in this thread. cut and split a cord today (8 way splitter)
got another load today. same place same deal. got some cherry, cedar, mulberry, and ash. I ran a saw to cut it. but easy stuff. I took my camera with me today. got there and went to take a pic and the batteries were dead. so i only got a pic after I got back to the house. it started raining as I was taking these pics. going back for another load now with fresh batteries in the camera. stay tuned for more.
Thanks, I missed that other thread. Perfect for big diameter rounds, very ingenious! There's a local tree service that sells a log truck load of large diameter trunks for $350. Very economical, if you can deal with it!
ya some threads come and go quick. so many cool threads keeps things entertaining though. that's not a bad price at all though. it kinda depends on the area for log prices usually around here tree services are happy to drop logs. saves them the cost of paying for disposal, especially closer to big cities, and down south. in places like alaska though, you'll never see free logs. got a friend with a boiler half an hour from me that saves the tree service $200 to dump at his place. they brought him so much though that he got 6 years worth of wood in one summer. he told the tree service that the pieces are too big, and get this, they paid 2 of their guys to come out and cut wood for a day. I couldn't believe it. i told them I'd pay them to drop it here but its too far outta their way. cost them more in labor to drive it here.
Typical load of logs around here goes for $900- $1000. I signed up for logs from ChipDrop, but no responses. One time I got a lot of oak for free, from an out of town tree service that didn't want to truck the logs back to where he came from. Those guys down on Long Island, on the other hand, are rolling in free log drops!
here is the trees to drop. here is the woods just past the property line. the owners of these woods don't want anyone cutting their trees, not even the dead fall or standing dead. they call themselves tree lovers. obviously they are hurting all these trees by not cleaning up the dead and falling over stuff. some rotted pines have been dead for many years. here is the old timer helping me. very set in his ways but offering to load the trailer with his machine. umm, sure I'll do it your way. he has forks on the front bucket.
he wanted to hook up a chain to make sure it goes the right way. it was leaning the wrong way. this cherry didn't fall exactly the way we were hoping for. but this is fine. got it bucked into logs. got the chain hooked up for the next one. its a mulberry.
Good sized stump. I cut the hinge deeper on this one. the saw is a 460. this cherry is leaning hard the exact wrong way. got the chain hooked up. came down the right way though. now for the fun one. this cherry and small silver maple have become very friendly. had to cut the silver maple first. got the chain hooked up. cut the hinge, it was leaning almost the right way. I wanted it to fall a little to the right of where it was leaning. so the hinge may look like its at a funny angle but that was planned. I'm sure the machine helped too.
Ive texted pics to Ms. buZZsaw's smartphone and she has emailed them to me then ive used them in posts.
Awesome work Felter ! Great day and some great wood harvested. Love that 460. Ran mine a bit today. Backhoe was a big help in felling!
I felt the ground shake as I heard the crack. fell right where I wanted though. you can't see it in the picture but there were cedar trees on both sides of where it fell. missed them both. missed the shed too. got her bucked into logs here is the only pic I got of load #2 here is a pic of all 3 loads, last load was only about 3/4 full. (not complaining at all) in the end the old timer. (farmer) just didn't want the trees there cause they drop branches on his field. land owner wanted them gone too. he said he was gonna hit up the land owner for $100. I told him he was shorting what he should charge by one zero. 2 guys, truck trailer, machine, chainsaws 8 hrs of work. plus another guy for 5 hrs. then he said he was just glad to get rid of the trees. said he'd throw me a few bucks. I told him he already paid me in wood.
It certainly does feel good. Nice cold crisp "normal" Winter day here. I was reverse hoarding. Posting thread shortly. If you dont mind my asking, how old are you? Doesnt say in your signature.
38. been cutting and processing for about 28 years now. this site and a former one before this site have helped immensely. lost my first fingernail before 7th grade trying to split wood. had a wedge (no handle) I tried to get it started into the wood by swinging it as hard as i could. hitting it with the sledge wasn't working. it was all the equipment I had at the time. the 2 sided felling axe didn't work for splitting. been there, done that. my eyes lit up the first time I saw a splitting maul... sorry off topic, the point is, I've come a long way since then. oh and I'm super jealous of your weather. its gonna be 50 here tomorrow and raining. Its january, can someone please tell mother nature the date? give me some frozen ground so i can work. not this muddy stuff.
