Point A to Point B, could you move this wood for me?

I advertise locally for chainsaw work. Got a call from a guy couple towns over to finish cutting and remove some wood from his front woods to just a few yards up his driveway into an area where he can split it with his hydro. It was just off his driveway which was an uphill "S" curve.
Backed the PU just into the woods to load.
Twin hickory partly bucked and a barkless sassafras. The other tree, which i believe was a choke cherry was too punky and left to rot. Pics before i started. Bucked trunk is not my cutting.
First truckload out. All hickory. It was moved 100' up the driveway.
Second and last load out.
Four rows of wood ready for him to split. The splits on the right of the second pic are from his prior work. They had pulled all the smaller hickory.
Maybe a cord and a half. 3+ hours of work. An unusual job for me. I wouldnt have taken any of the wood if offered. Not a job i was that crazy about, but wouldve worked this hard scrounging wood for free somewhere else.
As a bonus there was some roadkill down the street. It was dusk so only had time to grab this ash.

Did the guy want the wood for his fireplace or was he just looking to get his woods cleaned up?

I wonder if it wouldn't have been easier for him to just buy some seasoned firewood... Nice job for you though!

Ive learned not to always question customers when they are hiring me. Years ago i probably wouldve talked my way out of a job! He had some hickory rounds up by the house which I, being the FHCer i am, recommended splitting in half and giving at least another year to season. At least he had them on pallets. He burns a fireplace. I think he said trees were felled in the Spring. Sassy was standing dead at the time.

 

Its just a sign on a local business bulletin board. I rarely get any calls that way. Most of my firewood/chain saw work is referral. Im small potatoes of course , but a PU and saw plus the desire to work hard is all you need. I put a hard 8 hours in on Sunday and still cant believe i got paid to do it.

roadkill is my slang for road side wood i scrounge.

Just curious how you charge them. Do you charge by the hour or do you look at the job and give them a flat price?
