I went to pick up some wedges I bought on eBay, and came home with a few more things... IMG_20200107_1582.jpg IMG_20200107_12752.jpg IMG_20200107_4227.jpg IMG_20200107_52180.jpg IMG_20200107_21299.jpg
The Peavey handle has a little damage to the end, and there is a chip off the Collins Old Timer axe head. The wedges are in pretty good shape, other than some rust.
I didn't go for this... IMG_20200107_35266.jpg IMG_20200107_42967.jpg This was all in the basement of the owners. A lady who has a business helping seniors downsize is in charge of selling the husband's tool collection off. The old man has dementia now. Very sad, but good that the tools will get back into use. There were all kinds of things, old musket parts, a cast iron sheep shearer, chains, a cast iron forge table, an anvil sitting outside... There's a shed/ barn that hasn't been opened yet, waiting until spring.

How much did they want for the anvil?

Great stuff! Looks very similar to my collection, minus the peavey.

Oddly enough, it's also the same chainsaw I grew up on. A Montgomery Ward! It had a 19" bar. Apparently made by Remington, maybe in a diversification move made by the gun maker? I'm guessing here. There are still electric chainsaws with the Remington brand, and shavers, at least last I checked.

    Super cool find.

If the peavey is a true Peavey Manufacturing not a knockoff you can buy a replacement handle straight from them, about 20 minutes from me. If you want I can get one for you and meet up with you later this month, I will be in Danvers mass for a couple days.

Thanks for the offer! It has no markings to indicate a maker. I think I will use it as is, it's pretty solid. Not like it will get heavy use! I don't know how one would even replace the handle, the wood is jammed into the iron collar.
I doubt if anyone made knockoffs back when this was new.

True peaveys had a stamp I believe. That’s not really old (as far as peaveys go) it doesn’t have a square nut. Handles you just cut off and drilled it out and removed in pieces.

I read about that. But, I really like the tomahawk that walt made out of it, and the picaroon.
Lots of Collins heads on eBay for not much money. I paid $5 each for these two heads the other day. I'll give them to walt, it would be nice if they wound up in a gtg drawing some day.

Nice score. Those wedges are in much better shape then most I see.

Did you say cast iron forge table & anvil?????????:bug: If they were really inexpensive, please lie to me, tell me they were in terrible shape and absurdly priced.

Ha ha, they looked pretty good to me, but I'm no judge. The forge table was pretty neat, it was about 3' square with 3 sides, and a blower underneath. Should have taken more pics. The seller lady didn't put a price on them. I think she's out of her depth , and knows it.

If you like the condition of the handle, or don’t trust it to not break, they are still replaceable, just up the road.

You asked for it! 16 so far, plus a grenade style that's lost somewhere. IMG_20200113_34303.jpg
1-4 are starter wedges, 5-10 just average wedges, 10-12 are the big guns, 13 is a twisted wedge, 14 an Estwing wedge, and 15-16 are the same model wedge, but 15 has been used more. See below: IMG_20200113_42307.jpg

I hope you dont take all of them when needed at a score. :picard: Maybe you could start a spinoff of this forum...

My one wedge was mushrooming bad and now has a couple huge chunks fractured off. I have the head from my old broken Fiskars, but have never used it as a wedge.
