Nice! Been to Gadsden but only remember it from a pontoon boat in 1993 when I was living and working up in Athens.
HI TrinitySouth99 , My Dad was stationed in Argentia and flew Super Constellations from there to Greenland, Iceland to Scotland to complete the DEW line in the 1960's. We traveled a lot and camped all over, mostly on the Avalon Peninsula. Your pictures are instantly recognizable as Newfoundland! I remember it as a ruggedly windblown, beautiful place. It was harsh at times but I imagine the folks who settled there felt it was a land of milk and honey! Some of the settlements remind me of Placentia and surrounding area. There is one picture of a shallow gravelly ford that reminds me of where we took the family Volkswagen Bus and would park it in the shallows for a wash with all participants wading in the water. Good, clean family fun! It was all windswept capes and headlands and crescent beaches between with far fewer people back then. Reserved folk but very friendly when you got to know each other. Quite a trip down memory lane . I can see you are proud of your place and people, as you should be! Just a quick question. I see in your photos and remember as well, many houses with doors in the top floor opening nowhere. I once was told why but the explanation escapes my memory. All beautiful pictures!
Thanks very much! Regarding the doors, honestly I didn't know either but a Google search explains it as a door for loading coal or things of that nature to the top floor via a pulley system. Interesting.
