Finished splitting and stacking a load of ash off the trailer today . Had a nice blizzard at times but I’m glad we are finally getting a hint of winter in mid Michigan . I’ve never checked how many cords I get with a load on the 20 ft trailer . I use a grapple and just load logs from the woods . The 2 black racks on the left are 4x4x8 and had a little maple in the bottom before I started with the trailer . I’m not sure how much the cage tank holds , it was a 330 gallon tank that leaked so I couldn’t use it for maple sap . I seen Pallet Pete’s thread on the cage tanks and thought I would try one . Works great and fits that space on the right side nice . I’m conservatively thinking somewhere close to 2 ( real) cords of wood in one load of the trailer . That’s more than I thought . I guess it adds up quick . Should need another cord for the maple season to be safe .
Nice work. You stuck burning green wood? I have burnt my share back in the day so please do not think I am being negative.
Nice work! Can you post a link to Pallet Petes cage tank thread? I tried to find it but didnt have any luck. I have often thought about making wood holders/carriers out of those containers, but havent found any cheap enough to try.
The cages can easily hold well over 1000 lbs. That's Redneck above and Barcroftb on the tractor below.
I was gonna title this thread “ what’s wrong with this picture “. I’m surprised no one has noticed it yet in the 3rd pic .
I've been looking at getting some IBC totes for a couple years. Never found any close by for what I considered a reasonable price. It would be great for sorting different species of wood, and differently seasoned splits. Takes up more space than conventional stacking or a woodshed though. What do you guys pay for them? Here in MA I see them range from $50 (cheapest I've seen I believe) up to $125 for just a 275 gallon cage. No bladder or lid. My tractor would lift the 330's, but those are tougher to find and no less money. If anyone knows where there are some cheaper in MA, CT, RI or southern NH please let me know.
have not read all the posts in the thread that member shout out device does not work on my computer either
2 years ago I sold over 50 330’s food grade for $50 each . I was helping out the owner of the orchard where I tap his woods . Usually around 50-75 you can find them here in Michigan. Check with farmers or fertilizer dealers since you don’t need food grade .
That milk crate was for you Dennis . I tried to split like Backwords Savage . No matter how hard I tried I just couldn’t get the Timberwolf to tip up vertical . Good thing too, the neighbors would’ve thought I’ve lost my marbles if it did !
