I've been asked several times already and know that some folk need to put in for time off for the spring GTG. So, here goes: First weekend of May will be the Michigan GTG at the Backwoods Savage's home. It will no doubt be a bit different this year but regardless of any changes, a good time will be had by all! More details will come later along with a private conversation for the hoarders who like to have some fun and for sure this year will be helping out Dennis & Judy a lot.
I’m in. Let me know if we need a mini gtg to get things ready. I have my xs241 all ready to go. Man i love this saw.
You bring your saw and other equipment along with your family and dog. Friday is the general day that people start showing up. Most stay right on the property. Campers, tents and one guy has a teepee. Generally bring a dish to share. There is always somebody to do the cooking. Dennis, Backwoods Savage ,and his wife are hosting this one. Friday is when things get going. Last year the folks that were there, went to a neighbors and bucked and split a huge pile of wood for them. Then Saturday we did a bunch up for Dennis and Judy. Sunday everybody went home. That is the very basics. Crowd size can very. I don't know if we will ever see another one like that. leoht and his dad flew in from down under, Midwinter flew in from Nh. I believe the final people count was around 78. That was our first one and had a ball. Oh I almost forgot T.Jeff Veal came from Georgia, along with his wife.
Have a look at the thread (link) below. Look through the whole thing as there are many pictures. After viewing these, you get a good idea what a GTG is like. Of course all GTG are not the same but we've had 4 of them so far at our place and they don't vary a whole lot. As Jill stated, people come early. Last year they started showing up on Wednesday evening. The big days are Friday and Saturday. We have gone to a neighbor's place to cut for him as he has some physical problems so we help. It does not take long to cut his! It took less than 3 hours to cut his year's supply (around 8-9 cord). We had the saws buzzing and splitters working. All had a great time. On our place we fell some trees, bucked, split and also did some trimming with Barcroftb putting on a great show of climbing techniques. Yes, women and children are welcome and some dogs are welcome but sometimes dogs can be a problem so we ask that not too many bring dogs; especially if they bark a lot or don't get along with others. We eat like Kings and Queens! We have door prizes. We have good things to drink. Also it is a great time to pick people's minds and/or watch others at work. I've talked to many who were really glad they came and learned a lot from others. And once again I would like to thank all who have came to our place; we really enjoyed it. Live from the May 2019 Michigan GTG at Backwood Savage’s
No excuses Dennis , I’ll do my best to stop over . Maybe I could bring some topping for pancakes ???? Hmmmmm
Dennis I wouldn't miss it for anything less than serious illness! also planning on coming up soonish to help get some logs staged for bucking, splitting, and stacking.
