Does anybody have any ideas for stack covers that are decorative? Spouse dislikes my tin roof covering, which seem to work pretty well.
I always offer several worse alternatives so that what I have already done begins to look OK! (Wife management 101)
Perhaps it would help if we saw some pictures of what she does not like. Here are a couple pictures that I've posted before of some of our older stacks. I've yet to hear anyone critique these stacks as not looking good. Here I was just finishing up. A few years later I was surprised to find this picture posted in Alliance for Green Heat. And finally about 5 or 6 years after the wood was stacked, this is the last of it before it got burned that winter. I'm sure someone is bound to say it does not look good but as for me and my house, we like it.
What if you made a wood shed and used the tin as a roof? My wife hates things not looking how she wants it to look. I get grief over the black trucker tarp on top of my stacks. I'll continue to get grief as well until I finally build a wood shed. Who would not be happy with this?
Sluggo , I do indeed see that Perfect, Attractive wood shed in your near future. Husbands can be managed also! (There is no class for Husband Management! It is already hard wired in women before birth!)
I love the look of well-stacked wood. Best looking to me is a stack with no top but topping is best, they say. If one could top it with plywood, that's wood, so, that would be best, but cost prohibitive. The black rubber looks good. I like the look of old tin. But I don't like the look of odd chunks/uglies to keep it from flying off. Best-looking holders is same-shape pieces of wood but that might cost too much. Actually, best would be using screws, I have seen people do that. So, some type of dark topping and use screws, that's my answer. I really don't think 'decorative' fits. Again, I think wood stacks look nice, it's down home earthy.
How about a gingham tablecloth? Like the vinyl ones they sell for picnic tables. Surely she would love the look of that! I’d put her to work leveling off the top of the piles and covering them. Don’t let her forget the hospital corners! Sounds like my wife, form over function every time
How about lattice panels with a frame around them? Just to hide the unsightly top coverings? Might as well just build a shed.
A nice looking wood shed like Horkn suggested is a perfect way to go. You can dress that up as much as you want, can be painted to match the house, add trim, lattice, tons of possibilities all of course if you have the room to put one.
Thanks for all the input. I like all suggestions for different reasons. Leaning towards quick and cheap painted tin for now.
Do like I do and constantly work out and pose in front of the stacks. She won't even notice the roof(s).
