Most likely there is already a thread about this, but let's have some fun again. Not sure what this was but it did this to a piece of oak. What things have you found and did you wreck a chain or what happened?
I've posted this before but it is still amazing. 3 fox squirrels made the ride home in my trailer after the tree was cut. Bucked on the landing then thrown into the cull pile.
That's hilarious! I imagine they thought they were just moving. Never heard of that happening before.
More like didn’t find with this one. Found it when shoveling out the ashes. It must not have been in a piece of oak. The tree guy who gave me the wood missed when he cut the tree and it didn’t show up when I split it either.
Hit this sign bracket cutting a log deck last April. Couldnt see the other side of the log i was bucking. Surprisingly the chain didnt get damaged too bad. Dulled of course, but not really bad
November 2018 i was bucking this large pin oak felled by tornado earlier that year. It had a spot light on it. Wire was broken off so i knew it wasnt live! All the rounds below the light had the wire and the saw sliced right though the copper
Eye bolt in ash Couple lag screws in white oak wires from a dog run and of course nails more bolts and holes from nails. I think there was a tree fort on this tree.
Skidder wire in a log deck. Again couldnt see the other side of the log and the chain nicked it. Turned out it wasnt attached. Found out the next week as i cut farther into the pile of logs.
Buckshot in oak nail in red maple hit with Fiskars Nail in hemlock chunk of metal buried in leaves. Nicked the edge as it blended in. Nail in shagbark badly rust stained red oak. Never found the metal luckily. nail in oak Same tree from prior nail hit. Turns out there was a tree fort in the oak. Same tree nail in split
Pretty sure one of the contractors was checking his nail gun when our house was built in '07. Chain survived after a serious filing. It was in the first notch cut I made in the tree by the driveway. I told my nephew that was helping me that day that I had just sharpened the chain the night before and I couldn't figure out why it was cutting so bad. I was about to take my files away from myself for being crappy at sharpening!!! I saw the chain was dull and put about 15 strokes per tooth on it and finished cutting the tree down. Then we found this... 16 penny framing nail...
Well they were mighty terrified. I tried to shoo them away and they were having none of that. They stayed in the hidey hole. I went in and took a shower and 40 min. later were still there. Went golfing and were gone when I came home.
I was being supplied by a tree service for some time. The bad part is that the trees generally had been tried to be saved years prior to removal. That meant me finding tons of metal in the form of cables, eyebolts, chains and lag bolts. Some I found prior to cutting, some while cutting or splitting and some in the ashes after burning. I'm not terribly sad he bought a larger lot in his city and started processing and selling firewood. I had to take larger pieces and they were a pain to manage. I burnt 6-7 cords worth of huge crotches and rotten stuff a few years ago. It doesn't take long to build up.
