    Anybody have experience with the champion 27 ton splitter?
    Stopped by Home Depot yesterday and it had some positive features but not too sure about the motor

    Does it have the 224 cc engine? That one appears to be a Honda clone motor made in China. That should be a good thing. At worst, you could take that engine off and put a predator clone on it for $100. I've got a feeling that Honda clone will be great as, most are.

    Not the 27T, but we’ve owned the Champion 22T bought new at Lowe’s in 2012. IIRC, it’s got the 196cc (maybe even 206cc, but what’s 6cc’s...)- never had any starting or running issues in the past 8 years.

    I was at HD Sunday and of course :whistle: stopped and looked at those splitters. The motor was the only thing I wondered about. (I'm partial to the Kohler on mine that starts on first pull almost everytime) Looked good otherwise. Almost soon time of the year they start to mark that stuff down to make room for lawn mowers and stuff.

    I pulled my guts out last wednesday trying to get my B&S/Huskee to start.:faint: It usually starts in just a couple pulls. but it had been sitting for a few weeks.:confused:

    turned out....it was out of fuel:hair:

    (i seldom run anything out of fuel and not refill it ):doh:

    I have a 23T of about the same vintage...not sure on motor size, but a "chonda" for sure, no issues with it...

    Briggs surely don't start easily in the cold, but OOG will make them really tough to get running.

    I have a couple Champion generators, one has an engine similar to that splitter. Has always been a great engine, starts on 1st pull almost every time. Fuel efficient and smooth running, uses no oil.
    In my opinion, Champion makes some of the best "chonda" engines out there.
    One of mine is 13 years old and has never given me any trouble!

    I'm looking at the same model. Have my choices down to the Champion 27 Ton at Home Depot or the CountyLine 25 Ton at TSC. Price is very close with my 10% veteran discount at HD and knowing I'd buy the log table for the CountyLine. Planning to go see em' both again soon.

    I have a Champion genny. It lives in the attached garage, has electric start, and runs on LP so I can't exactly compare it to a splitter that would live outside and run on gasoline. Has been flawless since I purchased it. CountyLine has a Kohler but IIRC those are made in PRC as well. I've spoken to Champion customer service a number of times asking questions. They're a decent lot. Not sure about "YHM" for the CountyLine splitter.

    As I posted earlier my TSC has the kohler on it and has been flawless starting. 1 or 2 pulls at the most even in sub freezing temps .
    EDIT. I thought someone posted in another thread that TSC gave a veterans discount. No sure though.

    TSC has a vet discount annually on independence day. It's generous at 15% but only once a year. Thanks for the comment on cold starts. The Champion manual gets fussy about fluids below 32 degrees F. Want you to use ATF III due to gelling. The CountyLine manual is silent on fluid selection.

    Googled the discount. Looks like Canadian stores Seniors' Day. Called two of my local stores and they've never heard of a senior discount. Too bad, the MIL lives at my place and loves the wood heat.
