What are the New Year day traditions? Special meals? Down in the south black-eyed peas are usually on the menu. The tradition started as a marketing ploy by a Texas grower to sell more of his crop. I would have to check to be sure but I think black-eyed peas were more of a feed crop for livestock at one time. I grow black-eye peas in my veggie garden; I don't dry the peas but put them fresh in the freezer for later use.
The only New Years resolution I have made and continue to adhere to is: ' I don't make New Years resolutions'.
I will be heading over to sister #1 for New Year Day supper. I know she mentioned that black-eyed peas will be served. I actually like black-eyed peas and eat them throughout the year. I usually will put some of my pear relish as a topping on the peas. I think I will take a pot of the pear relish with me; she won't mind.
One New Year Day tradition in my household was that all decorations come down; that was Mum's rule and I try to follow it as much as possible.
Pork loin in the crockpot. With sauerkraut along with a little brown sugar and beer. Yummy. Chaz will do up some mashed potatoes to go along with it.
