    Yes it is a pain but I kinda like them because when one room goes off, THEY ALL DO. The way I see it, sometimes the false alarms are a good "practice run".....I still check the entire house with a fine tooth comb, just to be sure there ain't a fire. Our fridge had a short one time and burnt the trigger switch on the compressor, those smoke alarms saved the day!!

    Forgot to mention that even they they all go off, a blinking indicator light will tell you which detector triggered the alarm....helps you pinpoint the source faster.

    Great reminder! I have never thought to clean the dust out on the detectors either....that's ane excellent idea. I just messaged the husband that we will do this when we deep clean the stove this weekend :)

    I didn't see anyone mention rope ladders. We have two of them in closets on the second floor. If there's ever a fire and you can't go down the stairs rope ladders can be deployed out a window in seconds and allow you to exit a burning domicile safely. They're pretty cheap too.

    Yeah I was thinking about them this morning not only because of this post but also there was a story in the news from Lawrence, MA about a house fire in which two young boys perished. I believe they were five and nine. Very sad.

    Those of us with children must make sure that when they're old enough they learn how to use the fire extingisher, rope ladder, what the appropriate emergency response and plan is etc etc etc and basic household safety.

    My Christmas tree is 1ft tall and setups in 20 seconds. Ornaments and lights glued on. Haha!

    They need to make louder fire alarms. If I'm sleeping, no fire alarm is waking me up. I've slept through a few fires even.

    Ya. I need new batteries in my detectors, most are wired but the batteries are backup. Time to get some new 9v.

    I'm getting more. Ours disappear....to the boat, to the trailer, to the army truck etc. I don't have a home depot for pickup but adding a better gauge extension cord to get to $45 for free shipping. Thanks Dave :)
