I also have heard other Colorado residents with the same opinion of Boulder. In fact, the first time was back in the early 80's! :handshake:

A google search shows 13 states that have seasons for them. Should be more IMO.

In our state, there's no season. But if they are attacking livestock or posing a threat they can be killed. Well, any time there's a 100-200+ lb cat around, that's a threat. It's called an Apex predator for a reason.

The DNR has tried to deny it for many years but after several people began getting pictures on trail cams, they could no longer deny it. And of course now they are denying there are any wolves in the LP of MI but they are wrong, just like they were for the cats.

On the cats, one has been sighted only a mile from us. Yes, they are around but rarely seen.

Right on. Just like hearing cats fight. It still doesn't seem to cut down on the population; it keeps on growing.

Funny how the game departments always keep trying to deny things. Take for instance the wolverine. Michigan used to be known as the wolverine state (ever wonder why the U of M has the wolverine for its mascot?). Yet they say wolverines were extinct hundreds of years ago here. Then suddenly one showed up. They denied it. Then someone got a picture of it and put it in the local paper. Hard to deny that. Now that particular wolverine has been mounted and is on display by whom? Of course, the DNR.

As for the cat and deer, probably it could be found there was something wrong with the deer to get caught by the cat but perhaps not. My guess is the cat still got it later.

Yeah.... trouble being that being an "urban deer" it was a little too lackidaisical on its own awareness.

The cat is a stealth predator.

Back in October, my neighbor butchered his deer plus a friend's, and dumped the carcasses at the back of his property. There was no trace of them 24 hours later.
My dad and I saw how efficient a cougar is at hiding a carcass when we put a trail camera on what was left of his deer this year. It took about 24 hours for the cat to find it, drag the main carcass down the hill and bury it, and bury some smaller parts right in front of the camera.

Spooky Stuff!!! They are so strong  We used to find spines/skeletons in our large sage brush bushes after the snow melted. But much different terrain than the pics you posted, no ferns or soft dirt. Terrible CFD (chronic wasting disease) in our area at that time, so I rationalized it that they were culling the herd, which they obviously did. Fierce animal for sure.

PS that scenery is gorgeous

Haven't seen any Mountain Lions here. I did have a Black Bear though. Pulled the door clean off the hinges of a trash house I'd built and took the bags. Only a little guy, propb 200-250 lbs or so. Wife said "Aren't you gonna scare it away?"

"What are you an idiot?", "Yeah, I'm gonna risk death so a couple trash bags don't get taken!" I just watched as the bear cockily trotted off into the woods.

last year or the year before, puma in Brookfield , WI, Waukesha county, made the news with videos of it. Tracked more than one in the Waukesha and Washington counties since the early 80's. Washara county in the 90's - Wild rose area . Black bear also where they supposedly were not as well as Wolves, back in those days. and always the denial by the DNR- advent of game cams has made them think a bit more now before discounting reported sightings.
Always fun to drive around a corner and have a big cat slauntering down the road in front of you- Wild Rose 1999.
Hey Horkin used to live in Beloit back in the 70's had a home on the west side of town- Johnson st. Was a member of Beloit rifle club and shot trap leagues over at Izaak Walton Club. I worked at Beloit Corp.paper machinery co. before PH destroyed it.

Yeah, Beloit and Janesville were really hit hard when the large industries left.

At least our DNR admits there are Timberwolves. I mean, since the university system tracks them, as well as the elk that were introduced and doing well.

There was a big to do here in WA St. when a young woman was attacked and killed and her companion injured while biking in 2018. Not terribly far from urban areas either. Cougar sightings and incidents are on the rise where I hunt deer, elk and mushrooms. The National Forest Rangers are quite frank about them but anyone on the State level stays very quiet. Anymore when I mushroom hunt I carry a 45 or 40 S&W for discouragement purposes should I ever need it. Several years back I was heading up to elk hunt and heard wolves howling nearby in the dark early morning hours. I had briefly stopped the truck to off load some coffee. This was in an area WSW of Rainier National Park where no wolves were supposed to be. I reported the howling to the State sanctioned report site along with Lat./Lon. and other info. I was basically told I was full of sh!t and that there were no wolves except in a very tiny northern corner of the state. All this happened right before it was revealed that the state had reintroduced 4 packs to the north and middle Cascade Mtns. 3 years before. They had been lying about sightings up there for 3 years! Supposedly there are no wolves from north of Rainier south but the Sierra club has been reporting them in Rainier Park and south for ages. I have zero confidence that anyone on the State level would provide any accurate info on either the big cats or wolves!
