Same here, but I like a lot of what I've seen and read about the IS, so I'll be following the development of this smaller version with great interest; That size could work here.
We all know you work very hard, and no one will fault you for catching a quick nap once in a while. ;)

Looks like a great trip Oldhippie, thanks for sharing.

I hope Woodstock doesn't get too far away from their original soapstone stove design. 1 or 2 steel stoves are fine but they just don't have the looks of soapstone IMHO.

I'd like to see a nice soapstone box stove with a 2-3 cu ft fire box, cat and ash pan. That might make me give up my gas stove in the basement.

I poked at that a bit and it seemed natural to me to just shrink the IS down to 2/3rds scale or something. But Jaime explained they could probably do that but there are certain design requirements and technical issues that don't support that theory. One set of issues revolves around the future government reqs that "may be" mandated, and building in (rather than bolting on later), and then the 2nd set of issues revolves around just how things can change from govt reqs, and building in capability where the writing is on the wall for potential future govt reqs and/or new future features.

So, it seems as if WS is preparing for what they think the govt will do but is not quite in place yet? I can understand that but as we have touched on with the IS is that this stove is so efficient with its secondary burns that why would they not place the same downsized components into the Franklin? Emissions would be the govts leaning post on this. Sounds like a big secret to me

Actually it's more like things as have to do with requirements for outside air feeds and such as that. There maybe other things, that upcoming market trends too, like automation, remote controls programming and other market/competitive drivers that will drive the final design. The outside feeds would impact the airflow into the stove and in turn impact the burn characteristics which may require design tweaks, as opposed to just scaling down. Technology would stay the same but tuning the stove to maximize efficiency, burn times and all that other good stuff, while still staying inside emissions requirements may dictate some changes. I don't think they'll change anything they have with a winning formula unless they have to.
