The gal shooting this video is my neighbor. This happened about a month or so ago.

Be warned. This video is a nature video of a mountain lion and a deer. This is probably not suitable for little kiddos.

This is a print I saw when we were in Utah about 5 miles back in on Federal land. The quarter beside it was for a size reference. Everybody I have shown it to says it is a mountain lion track.
Really makes you wonder if you can outrun your wife!

If the deer was able to get up and run off, he probably survived. The mountain lion seemed to me to be trying to break his neck or suffocate him, but the car distracted him. Hey--the mountain lion's gotta eat just like you and me. I rather him get a deer than a jogger or someone's dog.

True. There are mountain lions all over the place up here. I see a handful every year on and around my property. I’d rather they pick off the deer than my dog or a kid. My head is on a swivel when I Leave for work before the sun comes up, or when I let my dog out at night.

I didn’t know there were mountain lions in Michigan. Interesting! I have some family in Wisconsin. They say there are no mountain lions in WI. I guess I just assumed the same about the whole Great Lakes region.

I’m not good with animal prints. It’s big though. And chances are, as far back as it was it was probably a cat!

The Wisconsin DNR finally admitted that there are mountain lions in Wisconsin, about say 3 years ago. I've seen them going back as far as when I was in boy scouts probably 10-12 yrs old. That was about 30 yrs ago. My now wife, myself and my dogs all had to haul butt into the safety of the cottage in the Northwoods of Wisconsin around 2004 or 05, as a mountain lion was coming through the woods at us. I didn't see the cat, but I've spent enough time in the woods to know the sounds only a big cat can make. A neighbor shot a large mountain lion a few months after that. No it wasn't reported to the DNR. We were watching an awesome meteor shower, think it was the perseids, and there was no moon light, so while it was awesome for meteor watching, you couldn't see much on the ground.

Cash Larue how recently did your relatives say this?
Here's some info. Click on the "sightings". That will give you enough to go on.
Cougars in Wisconsin - Wisconsin DNR

Now in the past the DNR here says that all of the MTN lions were from the Dakota's and not actually a breeding population. Yeah, right.

Yeah, after what Gary said I did a little research. Sounds like “official” mountain lion sightings have only been recorded for the last few years in WI. Those things are hardy and have a huge traveling range. I guess I’m not that surprised. You are right though - a mountain lion scream is something that is unmistakeable and unforgettable. It’s one of those sounds that elicits a primal fight or flight response in a person. Probably goes back to when the Sabre tooth hunted the cave man.

I'm from the PNW as well, since they stopped allowing cat hunting with dogs about 33 yrs ago, the population of big cats has really exploded. We live in a small town of about 8,000 a lady called the police because she saw 3 big cats walking up our street, late one night. Probably a adult female and 2 of her yearling kits. Man is the cougar's only real predator, and they really aren't afraid of him. If that one was with in a mile of your house, he's probably been by or around your house as well.

I heard it do the large cat purr growl thing. That and I heard it coming towards us when though I started throwing sticks rocks and insults at it. It still kept coming towards us. Had I had a pistol on me at the time, I'd have let a few rounds fly too. We were feet from the door, and trying to get Miss Molly the 135 lb Newfie/ lab mix inside was difficult. We had our 2 other dogs with us a 90 lb lab and a 40 lb Brittany with us. Trying to get 3 off leash dogs inside was not easy, but Molly was super protective of her family and really was difficult. My now wife is from NorCal, so she was inside the cottage quickly.

I do wonder if that cat would've seen Molly and realized that Molly wasn't one to be messed with, if the cat would've backed off on it's own. I'm very glad I didn't have to find out.

It’s been a few years since my cousin and I have talked about cougars in WI. He and his wife live in Wausau. He was born and raised there. Avid outdoorsman. He always felt like there were so many fake sightings that kept getting debunked, that he just didn’t believe they were there. Plus he’s never seen any sign. He and I may have to revisit that conversation. He’s no dummy. He probably has changed his tune by now. I also think it’s funny to say that cougars don’t breed in WI. Why not? I don’t feel like going out of state has ever stopped anyone from breeding:rofl:

Yeah, that’s the road leading up to my house. I’ve probably seen him. They run rampant around here too. You can still hound hunt them here though.

My neighbor’s 140 pound Pit Bull grabbed a mountain lion that was on their deck. It wasn’t much of a fight. The pit is no joke, but that cat made quick work of him. Didn’t kill him, but he ended up with a couple hundred stitches.

I used to live in Wausau. The cottage I speak about is directly north of Wausau about 45 miles. I saw one in when I was a kid was in Mountain, Wi, go figure, they've been spotted in Beloit, which is basically in Illinois, and right by our house 1 county north of Milwaukee, and in other burbs of the Milwaukee area. In 2015 , the "Milwaukee lion" was a thing. One of the river beds that it was seen roaming is less than a mile from my house.
