    I am thinking about getting the heat max for next year. The owner's manual said it recommends a 6 inch liner or flue opening. Can I choke it down to a 5 inch stainless steel liner?

    A 5” diameter pipe has 30% less cross sectional area than a 6” diameter pipe. That seems like a big reduction.

    You can always call drolet customer support and ask. But I'm sure we both know the response to be heard.

    Why would you want to reduce it to 5" anyway?

    Did you post this question on another site?
    If so, you already have my answer...probably not...you could try it, but be prepared to change to a 6" then if it doesn't work.
    That's a big reduction for any appliance that is designed to run on a 6"...it might operate the stove OK, but the issue will probably be smoke rollout when loading...
