Fruit wood is also non toxic for baby rattles and toys with no finish. Teething on them is safe for the child. So any baby toys it would be great!

As I kinda suspected. We have none of those highly valuable black walnut trees around these parts and I'm sure the guy that told me was just citing a rule of thumb sorta thing?

You did. I didnt even have my glasses on to read the small print either! Trying to sneak one by me eh?! Ya gotta get up pretty late in the morning to do that!
I would burn the peach, just make sure its seasoned and hasnt grown any fuzz patrick kozlowski ! The only fruitwood ive ever burned is apple. Unless wild black cherry is considered a fruitwood.

close enough. cherry is very good for smoking. quite similar in flavor to oak .

I've used a lot of pear for smoking. Very mild. Pecan is my favorite. Especially for beef. You can taste the smoke in the air around the smoker. Incredible.

    Oh yeah!
I discovered pecan about 12 years ago, kinda by accident. We were picking up a smoker in SC and while we were there staying at a friends place we wanting to try out the new rig. I asked my buddy if he had any hardwood pieces laying around his shop we could use to smoke on. He looked around a while and brought back pecan. I got the cooker going and while we were burning off the metals i started smelling the pecan smoke. A little while later the smoke was drifting through the carport and i realized i could taste the sweet nutty flavor of the wood in the air. My buddies agreed after that they were tasting it also. The steaks we make for dinner were incredible and pecan has been one of my faves since!

Thanks Steve! :salute: No big deal, for now .
Eric hooked me up with some and my friends in SC sent me home with some. so I have a good bit right now. and we haven't been smoking much lately... I think a wheel barrel load would last me a lifetime. It only takes a cup full of chunks per outing

Then you’re sitting pretty as a peach:D:thumbs: I gather you trim those trees every year?? Must have quite a bit of kindling from those long spring growths before the blossoms grow. At least the fruit trees here in WA do that, you could swear make a bunch of arrows with them being so straight and long but make great kindling if bundled up and cut to stove sizes or just enough for the bbq to cover hot coals! Can’t go wrong with a steady supply like that.:handshake:also welcome to the club, enjoy your time here, share some pictures? We enjoy all newcomers for their knowledge and questions.
