Well, thanks to the constantly FULL PLATE and just way too much to do, I gotta put the woodshed project off for ANOTHER year. The tree work is piling up like crazy, and some of them are HUGE trees, big jobs. So now I have around 14 cord of wood split and piled up in two locations on my property, this weekend the stacking fun will commence.......getting 20 skids this weekend.....
I know the feeling Scotty-- Just brought home a bunch of compost for two beds of the garden that we haven't gotten in yet, ripping out the front door tomorrow and cementing the new frame in, got to mow my own yard (instead of the neighbors), and I've got a ton of splitting to do. Making time for a BBQ on Saturday to take the stress off.
14 plus the 33 in your sig? Easy solution - sell the 14, put the money in the bank... I don't know how you do it, I can't find time to do the 5 cord a year thing. Good luck, take some pics!
Lol Pete I found pallet HEAVEN today...All the oak pallets you would ever desire. ...FOR FREE!! I'll make sure I have a firepit session somewhere in there as well...my cuz is getting a tried Saturday so I'll be occupied all day and night with that.... Gonna take the car to a show tomorrow night to get rid of some stress....then I have to go Saturday morning to look at a job, Guy has 5, possibly 8 HUGE old growth hemlock that are sick and need to come down. Have to climb them all and piece 'em....
I burned 8 cord or so last year so it will be a total of close to 40 cord after I'm done stacking......I'll be sitting comfortably at 5 years ahead, mostly all oak!!
I agree, spring is a killer time of year for busy times. If I plan things right (like this year) I can get my wood split and stacked no later than mid April and then get onto business without worrying. In the years past this has been a nightmare.
Eh... Just get to a point and realize that 99.8% of "must do" are more like "want to do". BTW the plural of cord is cords. Do you go to the store and buy a dozen egg and two gallon of milk? Haha!
Well that stinks the shed isn't getting done this year. You need to charge more on the tree jobs or find a contractor who need some trees down and do some labor swapping his trees for your shed
Don't feel bad Scotty. You are getting work and getting it done. Gotta do what ya gotta do. I wanted to build some wood cribs that I could move my wood around with the Bobcat in larger amounts. But I just did not find the time. Like my neighbor use to tell me. "That's okay. It will be there when you get to it."
You need Alaska daylight hours, our 19 hours of sun, not really dark at night, you could get a lot more done
Scotty, I'm only gonna' say this once and then shut up.....do the woodshed. Make the time, put off some of those tree jobs, but do the shed. It's arguably the smartest thing I've done in a long time. Put it as close to the house as you can. Done. Oh, and slow down for a minute....you're killin' yourself. Don't need you falling out of a tree. There's another old saying......."No one has ever said on their death bed how they wished they'd worked more". Actually, I need to be under 40 again. THAT's how I could get more done.
I don't use a woodshed, i have no reason to. The snow on the woodpiles takes a bit to shovel off, and maybe a little makes it into the house, but its a minor issue. The wood does get "weathered" sitting out in the open but it burns just fine. The stove doesn't care!
