Went to cut a load of red oak from recent Asplundh work this afternoon. Its been sitting for three weeks untouched and i had got permission from the property owner to cut. Big rather tangled mess of logs. I pull up to a big white box truck in the driveway and fresh cutting...uh oh. I parked and the guy was in the back on the box truck loading the rounds. Turns out the truck had a lift on the tailgate. He was rolling the rounds onto the lift, raise it, then roll into the back of the box truck. Neatly stacking them in back too. I dont know if he owned the truck or it was a rental but rather ingenious IMO. Guy looked retirement age. Knew what he was doing too. Couple nice Stihl saws and cant hook. I drove away, impressed and disappointed. No scrounge for me today other than what i got this morning.
Did he also have permission from the property owner? Did he lay claim to all of the wood? Or was it not discussed? Win some. Lose some.
supposedly his elderly mother lived next door and he was the original taker for the wood. I came across the score about a month ago. I talked to the property owner who told me someone had dibs on it, but then told me to come and take some. Being inundated with oak and working other scores it wasnt a high priority scrounge. The trunk was of good size and lots of crotches too. I have another oak scrounge to work. Need frozen dry ground. I stopped by there after and it was icy. Its on a hill so safety a priority for me.
Lost a lot of pictures after a PC crash. I have gotten many a comment when using the TommyLift. A real game changer.
I can see no good reason for not using a lift! It matters not if it is on a truck or tractor or whatever.
Been there done that in my Top kick.......all fun and games till the pile tumbles up against the door.
