Anybody out there have any experience with gum trees. I got some the other day and split it. It had a pink core and white outside. It split but wasn't stringy like sweet gum. The bark was heavy and dark grey, it was full of water. Hope it burns good next year, I got a lot of it.

Pictures? If it’s not stringy, good chance it isn’t gum

All the gum I’ve had was damm near impossible to split due to the stringiness. If it is gum I’d get it top covered soon - the stuff I had got moldy when I left it out.

Certainly looks like cherry to me too. I bite at the wood id game tho.
Never had any gum either. From what I’ve learned here your well ahead of the game. Most people won’t even bother cutting gum. Cherry on the other hand is a good firewood.

Bark doesn't look like cherry but the wood does. Not gum though.

    I concur.
Any particular odor to the wood? Be interested to see what it is.

The wood looks like cherry. I've had yellow bellied sap sucker holes in my apple and weeping cherry trees before.

Yellow bellies also like maple and birch. I don’t believe that’s Cherry. Perhaps a young Red Maple.

Yeah, that would help. The bark looks like basswood, but the wood looks like cherry.

Any chance it is red bud?
i don’t think it is ornamental cherry.. or it would have horizontal bands around it. I’m thinking Bradford or maybe redbud? Both burn pretty hot I believe.
