The bottom fell out of the thermometer today. It’s currently 10 degrees F with windchills near 0. But I’ve got a mix of hickory and ash in the stove tonight. Which keeps it a cozy 72 inside.
Slight and cold wind that is up and down. @9:52PM Beech and Ash in the Wood Gun. Early morning will see the same firewood and a sprinkle of Rice Coal.
11F OAT here, got to 18 today with a stiff wind, it was a bit cold. I put a little extra in the boiler at lunchtime due to a really busy day with cars in & out. Turned on the second heat exchanger in the shop for quicker recovery. Boiler is loaded with Oak & Locust for tonight.
We had a high of 33* today, currently 21* with a strong north wind. How low will it go? Only the shadow knows, well, and me , when I check the temps in the AM. Hard and soft Maple mix in the VC.
Suppose to get down around 0*F tonight, put a load of BL, Hard Maple and Red Oak in the OWB should be good till late tomorrow afternoon. Keep the thermostat set at 71*.
Was sunny and just under freezing earlier today. All the trees still holding .25 - .375" of ice, then a white-out snow squall came in outa no where mid afternoon. Temps plunging to scratch the single digits by morning. High might make 20 tomorrow. Little White Oak mixed with Hard Maple in the stove tonight. Supposed to be back close to 50 for Christmas Eve afternoon... I think Mother Nature is messin with us again. Probably revenge.
Revenge for DC hot air and folderol ? Northerly winds and gusts and temps dropping. WE got the phone emergency warnings. NYC got especially whacked with some whiteouts. Made for dangerous driving conditions in some areas. I see no reason for not warning people of the potential for life threatening conditions. Just don't do it for minor events because just like too many stop signs people will start ignoring them. Just topped off the stove with some red maple.
-10 here this morning. Beech, a piece of old Maple, and a sprinkle of Rice Coal keeping the Wood Gun up to temp. It is running frequently at these temps.
9 feels like -6 at the moment but the wind is up and down, 77 inside and I just reload with mostly beech. Two days of this then we might see 40 again. I wish all cold snaps were this short, but it is still December.
I'm at 13 outside but toasty warm in the family room where my woodstove is located. Loaded up with red oak and hickory.
Boiler only ate about 1/3 of what I loaded last night. 11 outside now but supposed to get above freezing today.
Loaded up the stove with oak chunkies last night, didn't get it completely full, had a good bed of coals this morning. Added 4 splits and it's 78° now, happy hunny.
6* here. Last night I loaded 4 oak splits that might have been to dry (~10%) around 11pm - Jotul got up to 450*, turned the air back down to almost nothing and the stove approached 800*. Reloaded around 5am, put in 3 more oak splits and turned the air down at 400, stove hit 750*. Still figuring this thing out. House was warm and the oil never burned at least.
Am I reading that wrong or is there something wrong with the outdoor humidistat? Same for the summertime temps a couple posts up.
