I couldn’t agree with you more Dennis . When I first seen the post ( and I drill holes in 1200 of these maples every year) I thought silver until I seen the wood .

It has a sweet smell when cutting green.......it's heavy and dense, IMO one of the prettiest grains of all hardwoods. Very unique.

I made a tailgate for my long trailer out of a single slab, it's very strong stuff. I also saved a whole pile of smaller straight grained 2x2" splits for hammer and tool handles down the road.

I have a ton of Honey Locust in our woods with the massive thorn clusters. I'm wanting to harvest some of the larger ones for 5/4 lumber to build a large deck on the back of our house. The firewood ones that don't have much staight to them get girdled so they die standing in the woods. This allows the other more desirable trees to get more sun and nutrients so they grow faster to become better lumber later. After a few years standing dead, I drop them for CSS and they will dry much quicker.

I end up with fewer beetles in the woodstacks that way too. They can make a pile of dust... PITA. Enough dust in the woodstack that it blocks the airflow when I CSS from live cutting. They don't seem to get in the lumber so bad when it's stickered and drying. Once the wood is dry, they can no longer bother it.

These little critters love the Honey Locust. These were Hickory Borers, the Locust Borers only attack Black Locust. I can't tell the difference by looking but since they come out of Honey Locust it has to be the Hickory Borer, so the experts tell me.

I'm pretty sure that's Honey Locust. I find even the thornless variety all the time down in the city. Burns probably better than any other wood that I find regularly. Honey Locust has really distinct tiny leaf patten, if you saw any laying around?

Hard to see, but this is the tree guys 14ft 14k trailer full of the honey locust. So full the hydraulics would not lift at all. This stuff is ridiculously heavy, so much so my Duramax was screaming up hills. Threw the guy $120 for Christsmas cheer!!! 8F178DEF-BD33-44C6-8A83-D6D441D5AD71.jpeg

Good on ya for tipping the guys, I'll bet they will hook you up with more good stuff down the road.

You got some of the best wood out there for burning, in my opinion...Merry Christmas!

Rough night last night... trailer was too heavy so I hand unloaded most of it while it charged. Large round rolled down onto my sneaker covered toe....black nail instantly on the big toe. Tons of wood though!

Can't like that, hope your toe heals up quickly. Black nails are no fun...
