Figured i would post this here as well so that people can take a look. I know alot of people never venture over to the sawyer room. Wanted to share some pictures of some stuff i have made this year with wood off the mill. I am not a carpenter at all, so everything i make is mostly functional and try to hide all my bad carpentry by using really nice wood lol. A bunk bed for my daughter out of maple. Some of it was spalted, but not intentionally just didnt get to the project in time lol. Some shelving for the cabin made from poplar. Used a kreig jig to put it together. Some stairs for the cabin to the loft area out of hickory. We used boiled linseed oil on these. You can see the shelving from the previous pic in the background. Some trim work around my dishwasher, made out of black walnut. used boiled linseed on this also. Here is a good picture of the downstairs floor in the cabin. We did half at a time. Made it out of red oak and polied it. I think this was done last year but i figured i would still share the pic.
That’s got to make you feel good to see the results of your time in the woodlot and shop. Looks good. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Few things more satisfying than to be able to bring forth something from nothing. Or in this case, something, from a tree. Be sure to carve/burn/scratch of otherwise imprint your name and date on those things. One day years from now your grandchildren or great grandchildren will be sleeping on that bed.
Wow! That's some beautiful craftsmanship! You talented people make me feel inferior. While I can drop a tree just about any place you want it, I don't know which end of the screwdriver you use to beat the nail in!
That is fantastic Spencer and what a beautiful cabin too. You are right; everything was made with great wood but don't sell yourself short on the carpenter skills.
Way beyond my skill level even if I had the tools/equipment to make stuff like that. very nice work Spencer.
Thanks everybody, appreciate the responses. The bunk bed was probably the hardest project (minus the cabin itself). Since i dont have a joiner, i had to get the 4x4 maple posts square on the mill, which took alot of tinkering and clamping lol.
