What a night. Power went out at 9:20 and came back at 2:37. The sump pump has been running almost steady since all the rain recently and by the time I got the generator going water was 2” from floor level but we made it thankfully. Took me about 90 minutes to get the generator started since it’s been a couple years. Too close for comfort. 24 out and 78 inside just about to reload with some beech. At least we stayed toasty warm
12f this AM. Took a nice 10hr drive from SW MO. to NE Iowa yesterday. In a damm snowstorm the entire way Sure felt good to get home and fire up the stove!
I don't have a sump pump. But Genny not working when I need it too, is why I try to run mine a few times a year. I will put seafoam in the gas and run it dry from a cutoff to shut it down. If I have not used the fuel up in a long time, I drain it all out and use it In my old truck or the mower and replace with fresh fuel.
27 Raked coals and leftover chunks forward . Threw a piece of greener spruce under the smoke dam in the back and gonna let’er burn off the rest till tonight
32 with fresh snow outside. More snow on the way this afternoon and evening. Coal bed in the boiler is getting a little too deep so I'm going to try to burn it down some today before the cold snap comes later this week.
Didn’t go to work this morning. The fuel in the truck gelled. Apparently they don’t winterize diesel as good as they used too. I’ve never had this problem before.
12°F this am. Brought a tractor bucket load into the house to refill the wood box that was half way emptied. Gonna be a cooler week than we've had with some snow in the forecast.
That looks like springtime temperatures! Enjoy. Too bad about the gelling problem though. That is why I treat all the diesel fuel after I buy it no matter what .
Got started this morning clearing a lane I have not used lately. Wow, it is a mess. Lots of autumn olive growing up along side of the lane and right in the middle of it. Then a few trees fell over across it too. Got those cleaned up and just have to finish cutting that olive this afternoon. Worked up a sweat and you know the problems that can create in the winter. Felt good to come back inside to our wonderfully warm house. Put boot driers inside the boots and put gloves by stove. Changed shirt. Will have everything dry before going back out and probably working up a sweat again. For those who have been to one of our GTG's, the lane is the one which goes along the creek at the back of the property.
Getting colder now. Again. Up and down temperatures. Was 10 F this morning and I was burning Beech then. Now it’s around 20 and the Beech is combined with a few pieces of Ash. I will be sure to have enough quality hardwood in the house for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The weather guesser-experts are saying a few nights going below Zero.
26° and dropping after it got around freezing today. I cleaned out ashes from the stove tonight. Burning a couple of honey locust uglies now. I had to turn on the HVAC fan a bit, as it got a little too warm with those locust pieces. Low to be 16° tonight, but it will warm up as the week goes on. It does not appear that well have a white Christmas. We had a super light dusting of snow overnight last night, but it all went away from sublimation before it got much above 20°.
