What are the main differences in these two? They are both full chisel. Has anyone run both side by side? I’m thinking about ordering one of each.

I think the LPX has an extra bump vs the exl. Seems like most people prefer the EXL over the LPX.

I was just doing chain research recently. I haven't used either because I've recently been using the woodland pro full chisel and have been happy with it.

Woodland pro full chisel is very good. I think there's a loop or 2 under our Christmas tree in a box.;)

Also baileys has the worst search feature ever. I can never seem to just pull up what I’m looking for. :headbang:

LPX has safety bumpers on each drive link to reduce kickback for less experienced saw operators.

The new EXL is a replacement for their LGX (which is/was a great chain).

I'd forgo the bumpers and stick with the big boy stuff. I've used tons of LGX and have a loop of EXL for my 42" bar in full skip. It cuts great. I doubt you'd tell much difference unless your bore cut often.

I like the exl. Best out of box grind i have used. Seems to hold and edge better than Lpx/lgx.

Exl is more aggressive out of the box. Not entirely certain if the cutter is designed differently. LPX has the pointed bump like Jason posted. It appears to cut the same speed as LGX for me, but it’s maybe a little smoother. I wouldn’t shy away from any of them if I wanted a fast cutting chain.

Thanks I had no idea what the elx was last I knew it was lgx for the real chain. I haven't bought chains in about three or four years though.

I just wish I didn’t have to order a good chain. All anyone sells anymore are the semi chisel unless I want to pay the stihl dealer and I don’t.

That's county life for me. Just plan ahead an order online. Catching a sale you often come out cheaper. Last LGX chain I bought in sale from logger chain was $11.99 shipped for 20" loops and like $13.99 for 24" loops. That was like 4 years ago I think. Only used about one of those chains so far. I have a logger that uses a chain untill about half worn out then they have the cutters so out of whack they change it. I go through his tool box every other year or so and grab a half dozen and grind them back true.

This is why I don't have to buy them often unless I want.

But this is logging country. Go to the shops the loggers do and I can buy full chisel chain.

Yep, I hoarded chain every time those sales came up. I should be good for a very long time with my 18 & 20” bars.

Loggerchain is still a decent place to buy from price wise. I’m just not the type to support these chynah companies.
