Times sure are a changing. You, wildwest and many others have talked about attending a Christmas Concert on Sunday. They are doing it here also. Back in the olden days, when the dinosaurs still roamed the earth as my grandson once say, store weren't even open on Sunday. If you didn't get what you needed on Saturday, good luck on buying it on Sunday. Parents would of raised the devil about a school function on Sunday. Many parents wouldn't have let their kids attend.
Unfortunately there's some idiots that don't heed this advice. That Mormon family that was ambushed and killed had previously had involvement with a cartel. Originally it was thought that this ambush was a case of mistaken identity, but as it turns out, that wasn't the case.
I have a simpler solution............... my solution has no list of ""Don'ts" and only one "Do".....................Do stay out of a "Chit hole" country full of guns, gangs and a government that is more corrupt than the cartels............................
A rookie mistake was made by me this morning yet I am not a rookie. The ashes had built up pretty good in my Drolet so I let the fire go out last night and gave it a good cleaning early this morning. Dumped the ash box outside in the field behind my shed and got to building a new fire. Four cherry splits on the bottom and 5 mini splits of really dry oak kindling on top of that, 4 newspaper knots and away we go. She got raging faster than normal turned the air down and REALIZED I had neglected to put the little cast iron door that covers the hole that allows the ashes to drop in the pan! Had a pretty good inferno going even with the damper on the stove pipe shut down as well. Stovepipe thermometer maxed out at 500F and stovetop temp maxed out at 750 F. 45 minutes later all the drama was done. No harm no foul because it was such a small fire but she was a roaring!
I will ask the experts here for some advice. If I would have had the firebox stuffed full to the burn tubes what should I have done with a runaway? It would have taken more than 45 minutes to burn all that fuel down?
^^ That thought did cross my my mind briefly. I have some flat stock out in the shed that would have worked. I did temporarily put some duct tape around the edges where the ash pan slides into the pedestal base and that really slowed the fire down,,
Open the door wide and let er' burn like a camp fire, that should wind down the run away fire.....................
