After months of looking at newer Tacomas and Tundras and being disgusted by the prices, I said screw it. My dad pointed out that my T100 probably wouldn't ride like such a tank if I replaced the oversized E rated tires. My stock wheels were all rusty, so I ordered a set of cheap new wheels and tires from Discount Tire. Even though the website said the wheels would fit, I knew a lot of wheels won't fit the T100 hubs. Turns out the calipers were a problem too. The guy at discount hooked me up with a different combo of 17's instead of the stock 16" wheels and also went from the no-name tires of my original order to Michelins. The best part is that he honored the original order price.
That was this morning at a campground/park where we walk regularly. She was upset because I didn't walk her down to the lake for a swim.
I am riding on a set of tyres from Discount Tires myself. The rebate was a real hassle but eventually I got it. My tyres are from Korea but I did some research into the company and some OEMs are running Korean tyres.
Discount has treated me well over many tire purchases. They price match and don't try to upsell like some other places. They spent a significant amount of time making phone calls to find a set of wheels to fit for this purchase. I'm getting their cyber Monday 10% rebate on this deal.
Yes, the guy I worked with gave me a price that was better than others yet was still able to apply for the $50 rebate; so I got one tyre free after rebate.
Great looking truck and excellent choice! Michelin has been my favorite since the 80’s. I’d drive it into the ground. Looks like it’s got a decade or so left in it at least. My 2010 Silverado just hit 48k and I’m trying hard to keep it in similar shape so I don’t ever have to buy a replacement. New truck prices are ridiculous so I don’t feel bad whenever I put a little money into mine, like having it sprayed with Fluid Film every fall to keep the rust at bay. I’m hoping it’s good for another 10 years at least or until I’m too old to care lol. Up here rust is enemy number one. Many people spend way more on vehicles than housing and I never saw the wisdom in that. I have a brother who’s owned over 60 vehicles in his 60 years, and he had to go through bankruptcy a couple years ago. Now he’s stuck driving what he’s got for a long time. He’s not alone sadly. Priorities are different these days it seems. Drive a new vehicle, always have the latest cell phone, eat junk food, and live in a trash heap. It’s way too common.
Nice clean truck with no apparent infestation of "rust moths". I also looked at buying something this past week. tacomas and tundras.....along with a good ol' f-150. As far as tires go, I have been buying re-treads for my trucks when they need tires and have been very satisfied with them. Good CS, decent prices. Only thing is, I use the trucks infrequently and have never driven them longer than 5-6 hours continuous highway speeds. (I mention this as some people are concerned about retreads at extended highway lengths of time)
That is true. Here they need to be oiled/rustproofed and kept up with, or they die of rust cancer prematurely. My buddy has a T100 that he has looked after properly, and it is still an awesome truck!
No kidding. We paid $55,500 for our first home and 20 acres. No way am I spending that amount for a depreciating asset. Like you I will put the money and time into maintaining my 2006 Tundra until I retire, and maybe then some.
In Maine blacktail ... your truck would be "new condition", because most are vaporized in a few years from salted winter roads. My son will always own a Toyota PU. Loves it. I'm with others on here... run her til she dies...
Real nice truck there. I want a new truck, have for years, but as you say, just too high! Ridiculous.
Wow that’s one heck of a great deal! I’d still love to find an equivalent in northern Maine but I’d be living by myself lol. My hat’s off to you! Enjoy your beautiful homestead!
I was thinking of getting an old truck just for firewood that I don't have to worry about banging it up etc; something pre computer age. Would I like a new shiny truck? Heck yeah. But an old bang around truck will work for gathering firewood.
There are a whole lot of articulated lorries on the highway with retreads. Yes, one will see a retread on the roadway once in a while but if you think about the number of lorries on the roads and the number of miles at high speed, retread failure is probably very low.
