The mice now invaded my home in very large numbers marauded my pantry to the point of leaving a barnyard smell in just a few weeks. I had to throw out my whole stash of pasta...and I'm Italian so you know how empty and powerless I feel right now In the last 4 days I caught 12 mice with 3 victor snap traps that I rigged with hair pin triggers and I still saw one run across my kitchen floor this morning It seems like there is no end to them and now Im going to have to get those cruel sticky traps because I feel I have no choice. I'm not a cat person, but I am now really appreciating that cat picture you took. My dog could care less if a family of raccoons moved in let alone mice [/QUOTE] So sorry you are having pest problems, it doesn't help with fall/ winter coming either...we had a big rat gnaw a hole in a hot water inside a wall a couple weeks ago. Luckily my hunny heard the water spraying right after it happened and it was at the access panel. Had room to cut out bad part and fix with a coupling
That's exactly what I'm afraid of. I keep thinking I'm going to turn on a light one day and find out the wire's been chewed through. Luckily no big rats, but I do have some squirrels in the attic eves and that happened when the town cut down two big oaks. Space is at a premium here so one change to the environment will cause a reaction that is usually not wanted

I'm a believer in letting cats go outside. They are happiest that way. However, if you were to get a female cat, they get hassled by local toms, even if both parties are neutered. It's best to have a cat door for quick getaways.
I have two cats. One is a stone cold killer. Ill be sitting and hear a paw slam against the glass door. Another dead fly. Hes caught numerous mice, bugs, you name it, hes killed it. Kind of nice feeling when the wood gets brought into the basement and I see him smiling while going down into the cellar, followed by a bunch of ruckus.

Good deal on the wood! I do have a question. You said you had to wedge it hard to get it to fall. In your second pic, it looks like your back cut is well below your hinge. Maybe it's the camera angle, but if it is lower, then that could have contributed to having to use the extra wedges to get it to fall.
I had 5 cats at one time. Moved here to GF's house and she had three. Almost ten years ago. 8 furballs running around. Five were indoor/outdoor. All of them pretty good hunters. Down to one now and she wants a dog. I say no to her dismay. Adopt a kitten and have it indoor/outdoor. You wont be sorry! Mebbe you'll turn into a cat hoarder in retirement years!
it was a bit below. Only second time ive used the 36" bar on my 460 (77cc) saw to fell a tree and only 5-6 times ive used it period in 15 months. It was getting dark too. Keep in mind up until March of 2018 i had never cut with a bar longer than 16" so im still learning. Go from a 16" to a 28" and i felt like i shouldve been on loggers TV show!
Absolutely not giving you a hard time. Was just an observance and a possible reason why you had to use a bunch of wedges. Haven't been doing this for years myself. Always learning...
none taken at all. My first felling a "spar" as i learned it was called. No top weight to get it going. Pounded the steel wedge in as far as it would go then had to "nibble" at the hinge near the outside edge. A PITA with a 36" bar let me tell ya! Didnt wanna go all the way through and have it hit steel! Wood wedges opened the kerf about 3/4" then got destroyed by the sledge. I have the 28" bar, which is the most common bar it wears and probably couldve done okay with it, but wanted to cut her (dunno if tree was a female) down in one pass! The wires were right next to it, not that it was a big concern. How's the hip feeling?

Overcast, drizzly, rainy, foggy. Probably close to what it's like there. Ground is going to be soft, after getting to 60 tomorrow, and snow melt. Yuk. Going to be cold Wednesday night. Hoping it'll fIrma things up.
Ha. I used to have galoshes when I was 10. Lol I've grown up to muck boots, these days. Regardless, I don't like squishing around, tearing up the ground.
I'll be out there, I've got pine branches to take to the dump. Fortunately it will be all pavement underfoot.
You say you're not a cat person, I say you've never had a cat. When people tell me they don't like cats, I tell them, you don't like other peoples cats. If you like animals at all, you would love a cat that was yours. It's a totally different relationship. In the Newark region of Essex county, must be several thousand poor souls that would love to keep your house mouse free and your lap warm. I live in the woods, the amount of rodents outside is staggering. The one and only time one got inside the house, fell out of the open attic hatch, it didn't last ten minutes.
