I've always been fascinated how different siblings are. Grew up in same house with same parents, taught with same principals and values, yet are so different. You all know what I mean. My older brother and I are like that in many ways, SPECIALLY when it comes to firewood. I burn 4 cords a year on average and have 2 woodsheds full and many stacked rows of top covered css oak and ash. I'm 3 years ahead. He burns less than a cord a year and if he has 1/2 a pickup load going into the fall burning season, it is a miracle. He runs out quickly and goes and cuts a tree down. (If dead, it qualifies as dry to him. ) I love him dearly, but that drives me crazy. I always take him a load of good dry firewood for Christmas, so at least he burns some good stuff. Any others out there with a sibling like that?
I know many people like that. Just does not make sense to us but apparently it does to them. So be it.
While I can see siblings being so different how it could be difficult at times but I would t want my siblings especially my brother to be just like me. Different perspectives and someone to challenge you, who you know well and respect is a great thing. Sure we’ve had some heated disagreements but once we each have time to cool down and think, we can each say how we can change to better ourselves
Yeah it amazes me too, while I have a Lot of siblings, 1 is genetically related (adoption). Our personalities are completely different.
This is like my older brother and I almost to a T. I prepare....he doesn't. Remember the story of the 3 little pigs? I'm the one with the brick house (not literally). He's the first one.
Youngest of 4...and I'm the best one, my mother told me so. In addition to environment, there are many genes that influence personality. The combinations of the genes that siblings can inherit from the same parents is huge.
i have 4 brothers and one sister. the sister is more like me than any of my brothers are. meaning; we are the most calculated, thrifty, outdoorsy, hard working, ones.
My brother is also my exact opposite. I am into sports and everything outside (including my unhealthy relationship with wood hoarding lol), he is into computers and everything inside.
Blows my mind. We look similar, obviously siblings but she's taller and bigger, no autoimmune gene, and our values are polar opposite. Blows my mind! I studied the dog gene circle you shared, unfortunately my computer died, that was amazing!
I also think people need to be honest with themselves and compare apples to apples. Do you and your sibling both work full time and how far is your commute from work? Do you both have similar amount of kids, if any at all? Are you both married? Both own comparable size properties to take care of? Either one help take care of other family members, such as older parents? There are a lot of factors to consider. All of these take time out of one’s schedule, and can exhaust oneself.
My older brother handles the cold of Wisconsin by going to Arizona for the winter. Night and day difference between the two of us.
Nice post, very true that we all have different circumstances. I share different traits with my 3 sister's, but we are all very different. As a former IT geek, I can relate. The world requires both personality types for advancement. I was not the biggest sports person growing up, loved baseball. But when I heard a computer synthesize speech back around '84, I saw what would be the future. Let our "other" brothers and sisters solve some of the problems we may all face one day. Medical advancements don't just happen, they come from creative minds.
