It's compressed unsold fried chicken. Should burn like thin splits of pine doused in gasoline.

Fryer oils and fats are expensive to dispose of. Maybe this is their answer to holding down the cost. Buy sawdust and soak it in fryer oil to form a log. Sell for more than it costs to make.

Some insurance now requires disposal/removal by licensed vendors , some of whom are licensed to also clean and recover all the drain traps and filters and provide documentation so that oil in and oil out records are maintained.
Yet you still hear of restaurants being fined for dumping into the sewer and clogging them.

But its gone up in value and demand and you hear of it being stolen over and over again in some areas too.

seems to me there was an episode on/about fryer oils on the Simpsons. With the last few years of fiddling with the diesel by the mfg/epa the bio function has been basicly render mute. new units won't tolerate bio well. You need a micro refinery now days to make it useful as vehicle fuel. even the older waste oil burners are having trouble with the current crop of oils and such. Couple friends are cutting waste oil with #1 fuel oil to get there units to work properly. The Old Mother Earth hot water drip feed waste oil burner even had to upgraded to work.

You can't put biodiesel in a vehicle without paying the road tax as far as the EPA cares. To pay the road tax you'll need to get the biodiesel certified.
You'll also need to get the engine the biodiesel is going into certified for biodiesel use. Good luck with that.
Do people try thier hand at biodiesel ( in older engines ) ? Yes.
and the EPA has fined people for doing it. Best not to advertise that you are doing it if you are.
To use fryer oil in a mix with diesel fuel you have to remove the glycerin and although there are several ways to do it ( glycerin being the waste product you now have to dispose of somehow ) none of them are "cheap" especially on DIY scale.

Why can't they make fire logs that smell like cherrywood or some other sweet smelling wood instead smelling like unscented candles.
