Okay boys & girls what’s everyone’s best recommendations for a person powered sled for transporting firewood in the snow?
Biggest heavy duty plastic toboggan style you can find. Rope has one that I can't remember the brand. They use them behind snow machines.
For a person powered sled the cheapest thing I've ever used that was practical was a round sled, but it was an aluminum one. Unless they make one the same size in plastic most I've seen are too small. If you had a bunch of plastic barrels around it probably wouldn't be hard to make something out of one of those that wouldn't need power to pull it.
I have a big Otter Sled, alot of people use them for ice fishing. ....I also use it behind the snowmobile..... OTTER SLEDS Archives - Otter Outdoors
I've wanted to build an old school runner Sled for firewood/maple syrup season for many years, just haven't found the time to do it. Raised runner sleds are much easier to glide through deep snow with a heavy load.
That's pretty much like mine, except it's a different brand. It works great. I keep the gorilla cart on the patio for when there's little to no snow, and the sled on top of it. The sled works great as a cover to keep the wood in the cart dry. I've found that if there's even a half inch of snow, that the loaded sled is easier to get up from the stacks to the patio than a loaded gorilla cart, due to the small hills we have. Both the gorilla cart and the sled hold the same amount of wood. I'll even transfer the sheds content to the cart in the deck, then cover that cart with the sled.
Any polyethylene sled like those used for ice fishing should work. Otter is a well known one that was previously mentioned.
jet sled ,any sporting goods store should have them or a similar model ,works great we have used them for years for hauling deer ,wood ,ice fishing and trapping equip.
Yep, good coat of wax & they slide nice. Have that nice "keel" down the center to keep em going straight too.
Thanks for all the input folks. Lots of great ideas. Now I’m not sure whether to hit the BBC sporting goods store or the junk yard first!
I use one like this. Good for moving wood in the snow plus I can fit in it with all 3 kids to fly down a hill.
One can also use larger logs for the runners and can also fasten on some wide boards under the runners or any steel or aluminum fastened onto the runners, etc. Use your imagination.
