The logging operation arrive on my side of the woods. Loading area is just across the property. I hope to css close by and stockpile until I retire in a few years. Then sell truly seasoned wood. Mainly to stay busy that first few months after retirement.

Updates to follow. My helpers asked if I had more firewood to work this year. They like visiting and working.

Does this mean you will be getting to cut the tops for firewood?

Kimberly Yes I have been working the tops the past couple years from earlier harvest. This area will be were they cut off the ends of logs, and leave logs that aren’t worth hauling. All on flat ground

when they are done we will lay down clover for a nice deer shooting area.

I neglected to mention on another thread, this is a good time of year to buy ear protection on sale for their rifles if they do not have it already. Congratulations on your upcoming retirement :)

I am going to save up and get a forester helmet with face shield and the ear muffs. TSC had one on clearance one year but it was still pricey and opted not to get it.

You have to save up for $25? Working a little overtime and you'd have this covered, no?

The one at Tractor Supply on clearance was $45.00. I looked at some on ebay but thought they were just cheap China stuff that wouldn't save your noggin. A lot of stuff on ebay one has to question; like get a cheap 512 gig thumb drive for $5.00. What you get is a small thumb drive that has had the bios flashed to say it is 512 when it is not. Same for power banks; get 2800 mah for cheap and it is really 1400 mah.

Stopped by the first yard, and the rejected pile is slim. Maybe a couple cords. Can’t complain.

That is a small pile of culls. Either they haven't cut much yet or that woods is some really good trees. I guess it's also possible that the logger is very conscientious about not cutting anything he doesn't have to for access.
