I saw an ad for used billboard tarps. 10 x36 for $36 US plus $19 for shipping. I was thinking of using them to covering wood piles.
    Any thoughts?

They last better than tarps...still blow around too easy for my liking, but I live on top of a breezy lil knoll too. I personally like metal roofing and EPDM rubber the best.

    No experience with them.

I'm trying to get away from tarps, seems I can't get them to last more than a year, marginally at best.

I still am after more rubber roofing myself.
Heavier to move/throw on the stacks, but infinitely better lasting.

I think they'd be OK but probably a pita for going to the highway where the billboard is just to get your wood. :p

The real problem would be just how to roll the unused portion of the tarp back and out of the way while you are digging out wood from the pile?

A bit more daylight here than what bogydave has though; no rain here; colder weather (below zero) starting next week; yeah, kinda the same!

I have a nice " trucker tarp" that I've been using for the last couple of years. It's a black plastic 9' x 20'( or so). It's holding up well. There's a couple small tears that I need to use some clear tape to patch.

I drove by a "Molson Red" wood pile for many years on the way to our camp.

Never used them. I got a huge piece of thick black plastic from GF's mom that was used to cover the old inground pool years back.
Good point made about PITA having to roll it back when taking wood from the stack. Im having that issue now with metal. 16'x 3' piece teetering on the stack.
Price seems reasonable enough for the size and it you get a couple years out of it.

some of those billboard tarps have a pocket in them from my understanding and you can slide pipe in them to help weigh them down.
Still seems more expensive than replacing a tarp every year.

We have 3, I think. Used them to cover log piles. Worked great, last much better than regular tarps. And I used sections of pipe in the loops for weight. Finally bought some extra heavy duty tarps big enough to come over the sides of the 10 1/2 log pile but they are $$$

They work good, here is a comparable tarp, not quite as long...10 Ft. X 20 Ft. Super Heavy Duty 8 Oz. Brown Tarp - 16 Mil Thick

I have mostly, 8-foot long racks. The racks I'm taking wood from, are covered in old roofing rubber, cut to cover a single rack.

As I take wood, I remove it all across the top which lowers the rubber covering equally down the length of the stack.

If your covering is cut to cover multiple racks, then I can see where there can be logistical issues of taking wood.

I have a small piece of billboard tarp. It's been outside for several years and is as good as new. It's not as flexible as tarps or rubber roofing, so a little awkward on small stacks. I can see how a big piece with pipes in the edge sleeves would make a great tunnel cover.

I use rubber roofing for the woodpile at the OWB. that is why I mentioned the "rollback" of the covering as you grab wood from the pile. Right now, there is around 2 feet of snow on top of the cover, so there is that to deal with no matter what type of covering you have. But dealing with a covering that is 10' wide.....

Thankfully, the rubber roofing I have is no more than 4' wide which can cover two rows of wood at a time.
