Got my 2020-2021 stash on pallets. These two rows are 33 feet long, 52” tall, and all cut to 16”. My math tells me it is about 3 cords. Mostly oak, locust, and a bit of cherry. A buddy gave me an old conveyer belt. 18” wide. Gonna top cover it this weekend when my son is here. It is very heavy.
and a great looking 3 cords. From the looks of things a perfect location for sun and wind drying. Wish i had that kind of wind exposure! Nice work ole
There's a conveyor belt from one of these: on the abandoned property that abuts mine at one corner. I tried moving it but besides being heavy it is also heavily oxidized and smears black crap over anything that touches it. WOuld probably last hundreds of years if only it weren't so messy.
So I have this winters wood in the garage and basement all well under 20% moisture I still have about 5 cords in shed sitting @ 20% moisture might sell some we’ll see I got 2020-2021 winters wood stacked outside on pallets What’s a hoarder to do? Start procuring 2021-2022! That’s what I did this morning I found three red oaks down in my woods so out come the saws Sopping wet my moisture meter said “OL” (off limits) my back hurts,,,,,
If I had wood other than birch, I'd have stack as neat & organized as yours. ... Your system/setup is 5 steps above mine. Just AWESOME!!!
So my LP gas provider backed into my driveway yesterday. I heard the beep beep back up alarm. I went out and talked to the driver, told him I put a wood stove in the living room. He filled my 500 gal tank in July on a summer fill to 85%. Yesterday it was down to just under 80% as we do have an LP water heater. We agreed that he will take me off the “keep fill” status. From now on it will be my responsibility to call the company for a delivery when my tank hits 25%. Wonder what year that will happen?
Wow! My L.P provider charges a $50 'low tank' charge if tank levels go below 45%. I've checked around and have determined L.P. dealers, in my area at least, are con artists! If I change companies my existing company charges me to pump out, disconnect and remove the tank. That fee is higher the the credit I would get for a full tank of L.P. The new company would then charge an installation fee, hook up fee, annual tank rental, because I don't use enough fuel, plus charging for a full tank. Just goes to show ya; you can't beat a man at his own game!
We have had the same LP provider since the house was built in 1997 maybe that is why he gave me no grief for going off keep fill? I don’t know.
And here I thought I was out of the firewood business. Two of my longest customers have talked me in to providing them firewood for one more year. I need another 3 cords. I stopped over to my neighbor who has about 150 oak and walnut tops still laying in his abandoned junkyard from a timber harvest about a year and a half ago. We agreed a case of Spotted Cow would be my payment but “you have to help me drink it”. I cut Monday and Tuesday morning and started hauling it today. What a mess. There is wood everywhere. I got 6 ATV trailer loads of rounds stacked. And Thursday I got this left to pick up. Red and white oak, black walnut, and a few black cherry. Then I get to splitting!
This abandoned junk yard is 40 acres. You can’t spit without hitting a top laying on the ground. The amount of firewood that is going to rot away is amazing. And sad.
Eventually. The owner of this old junk yard has dreams to open up a campground. But our town board has taken legal action against him to make him clean up the pollutants first. That being gas, oil, anti freeze, battery acid, trans fluid, etc. It is zoned for a salvage yard and they (town board) will not rezone for a campground until the land is clean. I am not an environmental engineer and have no idea how he can clean all that soil in a 40 acre woods,,,,,
