We had a sloppy dusting by the end of daylight yeterday. Snowed like crazy 6-12 PM last night. Maybe 4" total. Split some beech this afternoon. I hear Woodwhore id be going nuts not being able to make firewood. Did you cover some up to CS?
GF and i were stranded in her apartment for four days. 36" +/- snow without drifts. Took me 2 hours just to shovel a path to the cars. The cul de sac was plowed day after storm, but landlord couldnt get anyone to plow the log dogleg driveway so we couldnt get out. My cat was stranded in my apartment for over four days. I had left enough food and water for him luckily!
I had plowed for the State for over 30 hours straight and didn’t realize how much we had gotten. Real fun having to do my 800 plus foot driveway with 31” all at once after that shift.
We had a blizzard in 2005, at the time, it was the worst storm I had ever been out in. The next morning at work, there was a drift behind the building. It went from the roof to the ground. There was a medium duty tow truck completely buried in the drift. I had a picture of the truck after we pulled it out with 4' of snow on the roof. 10' away from this drift was completely black asphalt.
Here's a couple more pics of the woodshed village from tonight after 6 more inches of snow. 18" total.
Actually im going to go cut on the lots o pine score after this crap. I split a few rounds by the barrel fire last night and that did not satisfy my needs you know how i love working in the snotty nasty weather. I want to rig something up on that wooden sled in my split pic last night. My dads new machine goes through 2 feet of snow like butter. The thing is rediculous
Spars can be tricky if theres no lean, theyll sit on your saw. Make sure you have wedges. I just did a big maple on my property line with no lean. Ofcourse i had no wedges so i cut a sapling to 4 feet and carved a wedge, cut it off at 10 inches or so and then made the next one. That way the tree held the wood for me. I made a plunge cut and made my holding wood after my notch of course then i pounded a wedge on each side. Did my back cut and she went rt over. My Dad was so proud
I got roughly 17 inches here...... it was one of those days where I knew I had to snowblow early before it was over just so I wouldn't regret trying to cut through it all in one pass later. I shot some video of my cleanup, this was the first snow for us here which is crazy late in the season as we typically have our first snow mid to late October.
You werent kidding about the spar. Felled it the "normal" way with front wedge cut and back cut leaving the hinge. Tapped it my wood wedges to finish cut and ended up destroying them. Gotta cut some mew ones. Tapped all the way in and no go. Finally pounded the steel wedge all the way in and then some. Still nothing. Opted to fire up the saw and carefully cut more of the hinge. Finally over she goes. Keep in mind this is only the second time ive felled a big tree with the 36" bar on the 460. Last two pics dark as it was late in the day. Last pic is where wedge was after it fell. The kerf was open enough for me to swing the sledge into it!
For those of you who're saying "I want snow". All you have to do is bend over backwards. This is what I came home to when I made it early Tuesday evening. About 6-8" of heavy wet snow with 3/8" or better of ice underneath. Every bush shrub and sapling in sight is crushed down to the ground. Power out to tens of thousands around here. As of this morning, everything is still frozen solid and encased in ice but the sun is out so it's going to start raining ice chunks soon. Left northern New Hampshire with just an inch of two of dry powder on the ground.
