The first 3 pictures are of the wood we cut during the winter 2012-2013. It took a long time (to my shame) but it finally got all stacked and covered. I had guessed 5 cord and it turned out just a tad over 5. Next is a picture of our back garden. The green you see is raspberries. The rest is the ground we just planted into sweet corn. 20 rows each 90 feet long. We'll be planting more soon. This is part of our front garden. My wife has finally been able to get out and pull some weeds. The only thing we planted so far here is 2 rows of peas and one of potato. The weeds are terrible but the ground is still too wet to even use the tiller. I'd like to plant more peas but not sure if we can. You can also see a couple of the apple trees plus there are 2 new trees that are difficult to see. We thought both had died but now they both have leaves near the bottom of the trunk. The regular trees had only about half the blossoms as normal and we had no peach blossoms this year. The next is a spot I worked up this morning. It is just an extension of a food plot for the wild critters. I'll plant some corn in this new spot and buckwheat in the older part. The plot actually takes a turn to the right and goes further than the picture shows. There is also a nice apple tree right at the end which you can see. Look for the blue barrel and the tree above it is the apple. We have lots of wild apple trees here. Pea blossoms! It won't be long before we'll be eating good. These are Thomas Laxton peas; my favorite. One of the tater plants. Red Pontiac.
Well that muggy weather moved in, wishing it wOOd leave, what do you have for weather your way? Tell the boss I was joking.
It is a bit muggy but very windy so not too bad. The dewpoint has not reached 70 yet but is going up. We had one quick shower and heard some thunder. Now we see new storms building up quite rapidly. They are mostly to our west and southwest. I think we'll definitely get wet. Like you, I hate that muggy weather.
Everything looks great Dennis! I can see how the wood, keeps one constantly busy this time of year, just to keep up with the garden throughout the summer, and last minute harvesting in the fall, along with pressing all of those apples. Wheww! Tired just writing all that! You have a beautiful property Dennis.
That Brook looked real nice yesterday (thought about a dip) but the water coming down from the mountains is still real cold.
The one nice thing so far is, we've had a good breeze when it's been hot out. Is all the ice out of Lake Superior? I saw an article about pipes that are still frozen in Winnipeg Canada, they figure the frost from this past winter was down 8-9 feet, the frost from the first four feet was out but not the second four to five feet.
Ya, I saw that article too. Can't say about the ice in the Great Lakes though. I'm not sure all the frost is out here yet. One road I noticed is still heaving a bit.
Don't know if anyone saw this or not but the graphic below is for only the month of December last winter. Notice the Keweenaw peninsula got 126.5" of snow just in that one month! Not so amazing for that area but some other areas at times get some big snowfalls. I remember one winter when at the Soo they got over 100" of snow in one weekend!
Wow, lots of work done there lately your peas & potatoes plants are ahead of mine, Looking good. Corn gonna make it to be knee high by the 4th ? That's a lot of corn. You sell sweet corn ?
It should make it. We generally figure around here to plant corn by June 10 and it will be fine....usually. This is 78 day corn so it should be okay but lots depends upon what Mother Nature sends our way. The peas were planted the day after Good Friday. The taters about a week later. No. We do not sell corn. We eat what we can and freeze the rest and try our best to keep it from the coons.
Used to trap coon. They can wipe out a corn patch. Ground hogs were a problem too, trapped & 22'd a lot of them. (Memories ) Nice stacks by the way
We usually get a couple dozen every year. Last fall I was amazed when I saw 5 on one of the trail camera pictures. We had got somewhere around 25 up to that point. They just keep on coming. I'm amazed that more farmers aren't complaining more especially with the price of corn.
