Got started on a bit of wood for 2021 winter. With summer here in oz starting next week I’ll have this stacked outside for 2 summers which will dry the yellowbox out nicely. It’s bloody hard and gnarly grained stuff that doesn’t split neatly so is a bit of a bugger to stack. Top pic is a pile that will get split with the chainsaw lol.[IMG][IMG][IMG]

Yep the kids out grew it and I’ve been using it the last few years for this. I’ll load it right up once I get some more wood. It works well.

When I first saw the pcture, I pictured the little kids waking up on Thanksgiving morning only to look out the window wide eyed and run over to Dad crying... ;) Only joking of course... :)

Wood looks great! Never heard of Yellowbox... Burn good?

Every year people are getting rid of those.I think next year I'll start collecting them. Great frame for tarps also

Yellowbox is up there with the best wood you can get here (Eucalyptus melliodora) it burns very hot with great coals and lasts a long time with little ash. I like it as much if not more than red gum. Sugar gum is another great wood from our region. Another would I cut is peppermint gum and stringybark but they aren’t as good.

Those guys from the bottom side of the world are pretty smart. Wasn't it leoht that brought the IBC tote idea to FHC? Now we've got HuskyMatt with another genius & simple stacking plan. That Yellow wood looks downright nasty to split, but sounds like great firewood. Well done!

Hey amateur cutter, Redneck and leoht, you'll be happy to know I got 3 of our totes filled a couple days ago. One more to go; either today or tomorrow.

I was going to say that. Put a top cover over it using the top bar as a support and you're all set.

Then again, with summer starting down there, you might want it open for a few months, depending on rain season.

You are going to laugh about this but as I was loading the third tote it suddenly came to me that I have a chain and a binder in the barn. Oh crap. I was going to put those to good use this fall... Senior moment... Guess that will be waiting for next year's list now, dang it. But I suppose I could still do it even with them full.
