I think this is what made us what we are today. Strong core values, beliefs, standards etc.

It’s an interesting thought. I was explaining to my US History students a couple years ago how mail order catalogs like Sears and Roebuck were such a big deal 100 years ago, but how brick and mortar stores, malls, etc sort of put and end to the catalog shopping. Then I explained the irony of how the internet and companies like Amazon are now impacting the brick and mortar stores. Amazon is basically the modern version of the Sears and Roebuck catalog.

Records are apparently coming back into fashion. How many of us got rid of the old things when cassettes were popular and now they are gone as well?

Sure do remember them. Our neighborhood grocery was Hawkins Market. All the neighborhood kids got their first job there. Mr. Hawkins always hired neighborhood kids.
Talk about costumer service. Mr. Hawkins was always piddling around the main aisle greeting costumer by their names. If the customer asked where something was, Mr. Hawkins would take them or call the nearest empoyee he saw. "Take Mrs. Such and Such to get Band-Aids." You didn't dare say, "Aisle 8, half ways down on the left lower shelf." You took them back to the Band-Aids, put them in their cart and asked if there was anything else they needed. You quickly learned or you got reamed out.
I do remember vividly having your gas pumped. We still have a station in town that will pump your gas.
If these stores that brag they have excellent costumer service nowadays only knew how it was back in the '60s.

The gas station was one place I remember that issued them. Don't stand in the way of Mom's green stamps.
You would put them in a book and redeem full books for stuff.
