Sent a text to my neighbor earlier this week. He’s got a stove now and is burning wood. I wanted to check with him and see if I can still cut wood from his supply. Good to go! So I headed up later this morning to get to work.

    I’m thinking Red Oak:

    Maple?

    White Oak is my guess:

Need some help with this one! Sawdust was a yellowish almost bright green color. And the bark is pretty darn thick in spots. It’s also tough to cut. The saw took some time to get through it compared to the other wood I cut today. It grows daily commonly on out road here in VT.

    The haul!

Some big Red Oak half rounds.

Figure the Red Oak will be seasoned by 2032....

Great day to be outside cutting, hauling and stacking. Need to get it split up eventually.

The mystery wood looks like black locust to me.

I also think you got the red and white oak id'd correctly.

    maple? Probably.

    Nice haul. Very nice.

Pic 3 could be iron wood. (Hophornbeam)
Not much for White Oak in my area (none on my land, some down in the CT River valley).

Black locust for sure. Red oak and I'm with Flamestead with hophornbeam. There's a couple I walk past almost every day and they're a dead ringer for what you have. No matter what, you scored some top BTU fuel, well done!:salute:

I agree on the black locust, red oak....maple may be mixed with beech and I am leaning toward hophornbeam

Hey Skier76 Went down to the compost center earlier this week and talked to the new company running it. GREAT news! Wood can be removed! They have a nice pile of logs separate from the brush. Boatload of EWP. Had a nice chat with the guy there.
Looks like a new trailer may be in your future. The guy there works for a landscape company and will be pulling wood as he sells it. Still looks like plenty to be had, I didnt take any, but figured id give you a heads up.

I was thinking the same. #3 looks to be ironwood, hophornbeam.

Pretty sure its some nice black locus, do you have a wood splitter, lol. Notice it's got some tight grain, but, a little black in the center, it should split pretty good. Great score on all of it.

I agree, I have tons of white oak on my land. I think your right it certainly looks like ironwood bark pattern.

Thanks guys! I’ll see if I can get one of those iron wood rounds split for an inside view. And on another note, may be time for an electric splitter.

    Brad,
That’s awesome new from Wallyworld! Sounds like you are right, new trailer time!

Your guesses were pretty darned close except for that drying time! And I also agree on the ironwood. Wish I had some that size around here!!

I’ve seen a couple ironwood trees close to that size Dennis . They sure don’t get big at all in these parts .
