Hello fellow firewood hoarders. New member here. Six months ago me, my wife and 2 boys moved into our new house that we are still finishing. We are on 35 wooded acres in the North Carolina Blue ridge Mountains about 45 minutes west of Boone on the TN boarder. Here is the pile of logs I've been working on. I have no idea how many cords is in this stack. Already bucked and split about 4 cords.
Welcome aboard TheJohnHarris Nice stack of logs there. Now, are those "face cords" or full cords? You'll find around here some do not care for "face cord" measurements. These and more questions will arise.. Such as N/S or E/W loading of your stove. Either way, welcome to the site.
Full cords. Used the FHC calculator (that's how I found this forum). The picture above is just what I split on Turkey Day before the big feast. So far, I've got 70 feet, 5.5 feet tall, single stack. Being that I'm on a mountain side, it is difficult to find flat areas to stack that wide enough to stack more than a single row. If you look up the hill in this pick you will see one of my stacks. In this pic the stack is 48 foot single row stack that grew another 20 feet today.
Welcome aboard sir! Great to have you here! Looks like a great spot you have there TheJohnHarris . Lots of acres of trees will keep you in firewood for many years to come! I would guess its 4-5 full cords of wood in the log deck. Just a guess though! Did you fell all the trunks in that log deck or was it already there when you bought the property?

Also have another pile of logs about the same size and many standing dead on the property. Got the splitter from Tractor Supply sale. We are still building the house and moved in as soon as we got the certificate of occupancy. We have the chimney in place, but not the stove yet. I still need to finish the shiplap, trim and paint in the living room and did not want to work around a wood stove. We are enjoying the hydronic underfloor heating for now. The boiler is electric, but electricity is cheap here, less than 10 cents per KWH. Hope to have the stove installed in January.
Wow, nice spread. I have been out your way a few times. Last year we went out to Gatlinburg during December. When we left here there was a lot of snow on the ground but no, in Gatlinburg, the ground was bare. What the hey? We didn't visit the burned out areas directly. My BIL had a friend that lost a rental cabin above Pigeon Ford and he decided not to rebuild; that was a nice cabin too; spent about three holidays in that cabin. Personally the teenagers that caused the fire should have been skinned alive; just my opinion. Welcome to the forum.
