A good friend of mine, grew up with him, made this for his boss as a retirement present for 53 yrs of service Wish the lighting was better.
I have sold firewood, off and on, for about ten years. I had to “train” a few of my best customers to try my black locust over what they typically bought from me. I just said trust me one year CSS black locust will heat your house as good as three year old oak. The next year they would always ask for “more of that stuff with the wicked bark”. They loved it.
I had never really paid any attention to it nor cut any til i joined FHC in February. Finally scored some last month albeit only a face cord. Doesnt really grow "in the woods" around here. Seems like its a "weed" tree growing roadside or in poor soil empty lots etc. based on my observations. May have access to more, but will try in the Winter to get it. One year CSS seasoned is okay based on your experience for fresh cut green? Reference chart on here says 24 months?
In full sun here in Southern Wisconsin yes. Is there a way you can get your stacks in full sun? You would be pleased if you could. I am not saying what you should do. I am just saying what works for me.
Yup, i fully understand the benefits for drying time with full sun and wind exposure. Unfortunately there really isnt so i do the best i can with what i have. There are areas in the yard with a higher sun exposure but Ms. buZZsaw wouldnt be too happy if she could see it. With all the wood i have only a small percentage is visible from the house.
You need to quit wasting gas hauling those small loads...glad it's not $4/gal like it was one time...... great load there, buddy......is that one you are gonna bring to Dixie..
Especially in your area of the state. All they think of is oak for firewood. If they remember, they'll get hickory ( which seasons quicker than oak and had more BTU's). Then they totally forget about the locust, which has about the same BTUs as hickory, but typically seasons even quicker.
This is the first firewood I’ve had to buy in the 9 years that I’ve been heating the house with it since I live where hardwoods are abundant. This is nearly a truckload of red oak I paid $950 for and I just finished splitting it all. It should last me 5 years with a little scrounge mixed in up here in NW Wisconsin here it gets very cold.
Rounds, half-rounds and a few cookies. This has been scrounged since end of September. Mostly Ash, a bit of Oak and some Pine. Just over 2 cords - about 1/2 of a years worth of heating. It’s for winter 2023/2024. To the left is 6 cords of splits ready for the stove.
I have never hoarded Beech but I hope to soon. If we can get to the dump at the golf course that Stoveshamster works at we could have all you can heat Beech.
buZZsaw thinks Stoveaclaus will like beech. Seasons in a year & great btus. Very similar to sugar maple IMO! AWHNR!
