They don't learn much in front of a screen. I remember 45yrs ago the lessons learned in the woods from Grandpa. My 6 y/o grandson is already pretty good with the mini skid. He'll remember those times long after I'm gone.
While the other grown ups were taking a nap, my grandson went up the the wood yard with me. I cleaned out the area for the new woodshed this morning, so he helped me measure it out. guess he didn't like the way I read it, so he's showing me how...
Pecan wood. Cleaning up for a lady that had some major damage during a wind storm that came through back in the spring. Ive been able to get roughly 3 1/2 cords off of her place thus far and have barely scratched the surface. Still have another 60X60 pile of logs to go through plus another big red oak tree that fell onto her corrals and a few standing ash trees that are dead.
I love pecan wood. As long as people can get over that its not oak, its so easy to split, and burns nice.
Thats why i couldnt identify it. As far as i know it doesnt grow here in Southern Connecticut. Sounds like the four generations are gonna be busy for quite some time.
yeah we are definitely gonna be busy for a while on this place. We have 3 other places that have alot standing red and white oaks that need to come down.
Kinda poor pictures, but there’s a pile of logs and rounds on each side of the splitter. That was the project for the granddaughter and I today. Her mom said she was excited to come help me. She is 10 and has been helping me with wood for probably 5 years now. She did 90% of the splitting today while I bucked logs and carried the larger rounds to the splitter. She also got to learn a new task today.... operating the skid steer took a video of her handling a log but don’t know how to post it
Ok thanks, but sorry you guys will never see it then. You’ll have to take my word for it that she did her grandpa proud the way she run it. Especially for a first timer age 10
That's great that you are teaching her those skills. And what's more, giving her the self confidence to tackle a hard job. If someone else believes you can do it, it's easy to believe it yourself.
