I know this is the wood pile section, but it kind of has to do with firewood because I have no help with getting on top of my 5 year plan.... My son always, and enjoys helping me with the firewooding adventures, but since it's football season, and while most teams are done, his is on their way to hopefully a state championship. My nephew is going to play at Gillette stadium (patriots) for the second superbowl in a row. They won last year.
Good luck to your son and his team. My boy is 19 going on 20 and isn't around to help near as much. Such is life. Makes me really appreciate the time he is around to give me a hand as I know it won't be much longer before he flies the coup.
Cherish the help you get. I wasn't burning when my son was at home so it was mainly grandsons helping. One grandson is in the Army now so no help from him. Other grandson has a girl and twin boys, so his time is limited. The other DON'T ASK.
Congrats and good job dads. Ours are 22, 25 and 27. Our youngest son is coaching HS cross country skiing and finishing up his degree at the UofM. Our second is in the Army National Guard and going to college full time. Our daughter, our eldest is married, teaching, and has a daughter. They are all busy. Don't take the time they are with you out there helping for granted, because as they get older those times are harder to come by, but sweet when they do. I thank God they still like working with the wood, hunting, fishing, etc. when they get the chance. The thing to keep in mind as well is that nowadays, not as many adolescents and young adults have the same outdoor opportunities, even if they might have the interest. I have heard that unless they get active in the outdoors prior to age 10, it is hard to get them in the habit, or develop the lifelong interest. In fact I don't think more than a few of their friends are as active as ours are in the outdoors. It helps that they were all born in Grand Marais MN and have a strong connection to our old lifestyle and access to our land and cabin, which they use with their friends.
