So i was reading someones post and they mentioned the “AS” forum. I tried to go back and see where i saw it but couldnt find it. Anyway i googled it and figured out they probably meant the arboristsite. The first post i read ( i guess it was a moderator) this guy was laying into the members about name-calling and being nasty to each other. I clicked off and will never go back to that just for the simple reason theres drama. I would just like to say iv never encountered anyone being rude to me or making me feel stupid about a question or comment that i made. I feel we are constantly complimenting each other and being kind. I really needed to share that and say Thank you to our moderator’s and members and all the smart computer people that make this site what it is. Thanks, Chris

This forum was created for just the reasons you mentioned. There’s another forum out there like AS that many of us emigrated from because of constant tensions.
When I want to do battle on the net I go to a political forum and draw blood. Haven’t done that in years tho. It’s just not worth it.
When I want to learn about wood related things I don’t feel the need for warfare. It’s so much nicer to have friendly discussions than arguments.

Well some of our bark up or bark down threads can get pretty heated!

Some parts of AS are about like the wild wild west...no thin skin allowed there!
Funny, I skimmed through there a few weeks back and seen someone who is a member here talking trash about FHC...I was surprised to see someone that claims to prefer it over there... whatever, have fun bud!

Gee sorry I missed those. I’ve argued with myself over that topic.
This reminds me of the frog up or frog down arguments masons have online :)
FWIW the frog is the indentation on one side of an old style solid brick. I’m a frog down guy. Masons can get very nasty at times.

One of the things I like about this forum is the lack of religious and political content. I don't come here (or any forum for that matter) for those two things. It's all about the wood and camaraderie and hope it stays that way.
I was introduced to chainsaw nuts and eventually wood hoarders via AS. Around about '14 started the whole GTG thing for me and my son. I met some really good local people there and became friends with them. There has never been any drama between us, that I'm aware of, since. I read of a few people being treated unfairly by the staff at AS so I jumped ship to another group, as did most everyone I knew (to OPE). I've recently started revisiting AS (mainly for the local gtg threads) but I'd never participate in any of the drama.

I hate drama. The only forum ive ever been on is FHC. Ive heard of the "the other site" and have been on it only when ive googled related questions.
I enjoy posting (obviously) to share my hoarding experiences and related questions. I enjoy seeing what other folks are working on. I love talking about firewood, trees, chainsaws etc. I know i can give and get a good laugh too! Cant beat that with an osage orange stick now can you?
I know its a couple days early, but i am thankful for FHC and all the great people ive meet on here. Hoard on and be safe my friends!

I still participate at the other sites, but this is definitely where I feel at home.

I can't believe these things are still being debated.
    Bark OFF!

    Ground DOWN!
It looks just like a face with the mouth in a particular shape. That's why it's called a "receptacle". roflmao3.gif

I much prefer FHC over AS. For the most part AS is a good site with lots of knowledge chainsaw people. However there are a few know it alls that that are very opinionated and start drama. Some even resort to name calling and “blocking” you if they disagree. Very childish behavior.

Just don’t let a few bad apples spoil the barrel. Most on AS are good people and know what their talking about.

Every forum I've been a member of that allowed political discussion even in a dedicated section for signed up members only, it spilled out into the main section. The content itself and the disdain for other members' beliefs/preferences. It makes for a divisive environment and is a taint on the forum 's underwriters/sponsors.

Never knew it was called a frog. Learned something new. Funny you mention that Joe. Never really paid attention to it when ive torn down old chimneys. Stiles brick co was in New Haven from what ive been told. All the rebuilds ive done were with new bricks with holes. Last year i did a rebuild for my friend on his rental property and he had me reuse the old bricks. PITA doing it that way.

I am a member of two beekeeping forums. One has devolved into mostly political talk. The other still has mostly bee talk, and it remains very valuable.

Oh, and bark up, ground down. It is obvious, really.

I figured someone here had referenced the Absolute Steel thread!
I am a happy member of the other 2 sites being discussed. Great info to be gleaned from both. Nice people on both as well. Over the years I was forced to accommodate all flavors of human beings through work. So glad I had that experience. Kind of ran out of things to get mad about:D

I'll beg to differ on that one. There is actually a good reason for it being ground up but I'm going to avoid drifting another thread off course.

I've been on AS a number of times over the years. It has some interesting personalities but also has some really decent and helpful people too. The vintage magnesium threads have priceless information and wisdom of the ancients.

I've learned a ton on AS. Made me a better wood cutter. I've learned a lot about stoves and wood here. Both have been valuable to me.

I've heard lots of talk about that being a trash site. I know several people that do go onto that site and also found out that there were some changes there not too long ago that were not so good. But the people I know who go there are all good people; at least they are to me. I've looked at the site a few times but feel more at home here.

Lots of good info on that site but so many jackasses it isn’t worth the effort.
