Nice sunny afternoon. Broke out the mini skidder & removed some dead trees around the yard. Small Mulberry Dead Ash about 10" dbh 20' down a 25 degree grade. Pulling it up outta the hole. Pulled up ready to buck. Pine from the brush pile. The Hillbilly wheelbarrow loaded & ready for the stacks.
It sure makes it easier. Those trees were small, but getting them out in the open with the winch sure saves some work. This was just some clean up around my place. I gotta say, I'm envious of the guys that just work with 8-16" diameter logs. In my world it seems like everything up to 16" gets chipped & then I get the monsters.
Thanks Brad, that little skidder is a blast to run actually, not fast, but a lot of power for the size. Made for a nice afternoon outdoors.
Looks good AC , that skidder saves some backache . I’m anxiously waiting to get back in the woods Dec 1st . The orange army is still out in full force .
Yep, we're waiting as well. Got about 1200 acres of fence rows to limb & clean as soon as we can get in. Gonna be a good winter if the ground gets hard.
amateur cutter I have to get over to see that skidder run soon! Was thinking about that yesterday when I was over where the loggers left a bunch of good firewood for us and then looking at all the tops. I'm sure for some a skidder with winch would be great. But the Kubota will work nicely too. As you know I have a winch on the atv but usually use that only for the snow blade. Speaking of that, I put the snow blade on a couple days ago just to be ready. Judy asked me why and I told her it is always easier and quicker to do that before it is needed rather than when it is needed. Besides, I found that one pin has to be replaced. I can do that before the snow flies.
Yes you do! Your tractor does just fine. Only advantage to the skidder is long distance retrieval up hill & out of swamps with the winch.
We had about 5", but it warmed up & melted. Supposed to be heavy rain & wind tomorrow & Wednesday. That really makes it tough outdoors. Winter likely won't arrive for a bit yet.
